I think that dragon is branding him with the Dark Sign… Because after the dragon blew fire on the main character the Dark souls logo and dark sign in the center looked as if it was branding the rock… Now the dark sign is what makes you reborn again and bonfires because u are the undead forever walking the earth because hint if u die your reborn
it would make sense but no you are born with the darksign you are not given

nope they are only making like the tutorial easier i remember the director saying something about the beginning being a bit more easier (not in those exact words) and then after the beginning u will get the dark souls feel that we all wanted
yeah think of it like Northern Asylum easier then after that ur in the normal or even harder dark souls beginning, thats how i view it
Hopefully DkS 2 wont be easier, I like the challenge in souls games
