“In a flashback ten years in the past, Valkyrie raises an orphaned Homura on the planet Oedo, whose natives disapprove of machines and non-blood relations. Five years into Homura’s training, after Homura is formally reprimanded for attacking a local official’s bigoted son in Valkyrie’s defense, Valkyrie convinces herself to find Homura’s biological mother, Kurenai, who left her daughter to acquire money. Guided by Xiaomei, Valkyrie frees Kurenai from enslavement in Sun Jewel’s labor district and takes her place so that Kurenai may reunite with Homura. Two years later, Valkyrie is mortified to learn that Kurenai has remained on Sun Jewel and supplanted the planet’s previous ruler to indulge in her obsession with wealth and power. When Kurenai provokes a horde of Stones into attacking the district, Valkyrie single-handedly slays the monsters to protect the other laborers, but perishes in the process. Back in the present, having learned of these events from Paul’s B-Cube, Homura finds her teacher’s remains and is devastated when Pino confirms that Valkyrie is beyond repair. Shiki consoles Homura and leaves her to grieve while he confronts Kurenai, resolving to fulfill Valkyrie’s last wish and allow Homura to determine her mother’s fate”
