I understand that some people hated Sayu for the mere fact of her dark past. But, when you immerse yourself in the story, you will notice that this character is deeper (not in the bad way..) than any other female protagonist nowadays. She is not a bad person at all. She was a victim of a lot of things happened to her before. I don't justify by any means what she did, because I believe there is always another way or choice (better or worse), but every problem tragedy, bad people, etc, was a consequence of a wrong decision, bad action, whatever. It was refreshing to know these kind of stories, that are very different from those with clumsy and shy high school characters. I can say there might be some Sayus around the world crying to be rescued and helped.
Higehiro is by far the best Slice of life Anime I've seen. Man… this story is so lovely, brutal, mature and emotional. The two main chars are adorable and act like real people would (not like in many other animes).
Even this anime finally ended, I've always remember those scenes. It made me cry suddenly and I'm really glad that I've watched such a really good anime like this 🥲🥲🥲
