It's a one way shut off valve, usually found only in high end Japanese pens. You can close it when traveling–epsecially flying–to prevent burping. It's should be open when writing.

I love the opus 88 nibs, the stub is great. The EF too. I find if I
leave the piston open a little I get better ink flow..that is a great color. I looked at it.. I ended up with two demonstrators, clear and a Flow in the dark blue..

I already have an Opus 88 Omar which is nearly perfect (because it doesn't really post, but I force it LOL) but this jazz looks like a picnic that put on some muscle or an Omar that slimed down… AND IT POSTS
That is a nice looking pen. I really like the color. Good choice on the stub nib and the ink.
omg stubs are my fav <3 I have a 2 twsbi stubs 1.1 and a Lamy 1.5 and that stub is my fav size curious whats the size of the stub <3

What is that music? So wonderful. I just got an Opus but I have no idea what model. It is the same size and shape as yours. Same filling system. The body is transparent green so obviously no ink window… Thank you for showing me how to fill it.
I already have the Omar, and write with it frequently. Maybe the Jazz will be a good companion for the Omar.
I love my Opus 88 pens (Picnic and Demonstrator). Surprisingly I haven't seen this color on the Taiwanese market – and it's easily my favorite among all. Maybe some digging is needed.
What size of stub nib were you using?
