As if floating, the Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse that stands above the rice paddies of Shonai, Yamagata Prefecture, is the first hotel designed by architect Shigeru Saka. Adopting a shingle structure for the serrated roof and reducing the number of pillars as much as possible, an open space that makes full use of scale is realised. This warm, two-storey wooden space offers many architectural highlights.⠀
