AKB48中心メンバーの一人であり、ほぼ全てのシングル曲で選抜メンバーに選ばれている。
キャッチフレーズは「年中無休の反抗期！ みいちゃんこと峯岸みなみです」。
AKB48の中で、チーム8を除く全チーム（研究生含む）を経験している唯一のメンバー
元々はモーニング娘が好きで、最初はかわいい正統派アイドルを目指していたが、「人数の多いAKBで、みんなと一緒じゃダメだと。自分のポジションを作ろうと思いました」と、MCや仕切り、毒吐きキャラなどで頭角を現すようになる。頭の回転の速さと、ボキャブラリーの多さが売りで、バラエティ番組での活躍には定評がある。AKB48バラエティ班の一人。自分でも「今ではバラエティでは欠かせない存在になった」と語るほど。
ちなみに口癖は「尺が欲しい」。番組内で「尺のためなら何でもする」と発言することがある。そのせいか、アルバム『ノースリーブス』完全限定生産盤C（峯岸版）と通常版には「尺が欲しい」という曲が収録されている。また、『マジすか学園2』では、役名が「尺」となった。チームB移籍後に披露された『チームB推し』（梅田チームB Ver.）での自身のパートのフレーズも、「同情するなら、尺をくれ!」である。
幼少よりヒップホップダンスを習っており、AKBでもトップクラスのパフォーマンス力を誇る。他にも、バレエ、ボイストレーニング、お芝居、英会話なども習っている。
2017年4月に小嶋陽菜がAKB48としての活動を終了したことにより、AKB48の1期生として在籍する最後のメンバーとなった。
2019年12月8日、『AKB48劇場14周年特別記念公演』において、グループ卒業を発表。

The catchphrase is “The rebellion period is open all year round! It’s Minami Minegishi, Mii-chan”.
The only member of AKB48 who has experienced all teams (including research students) except Team 8.
Originally she liked Morning Musume, and at first she was aiming for a cute orthodox idol, but “I can not do it with everyone with a large number of AKB. I thought I would make my own position,” and she became prominent with poisonous characters.
So smart and the large amount of vocabulary are her sales point, and they have a good reputation for their success in variety programs. She even said, “I’ve become an indispensable part of variety today.”
She has been studying hip-hop dance since childhood and boasts top-class performance in AKB. Besides, I also learn ballet, voice training, acting, English conversation and so on.
In April 2017, Haruna Kojima ended her activities as AKB48, making her the last member to be enrolled as a first-year student of AKB48.
On December 8, 2019, the group graduation was announced at the “AKB48 Theater 14th Anniversary Special Performance”.
