On the anniversary of Chernobyl Day, a painting created by children in Hiroshima to appeal for peace in Ukraine was displayed during an event held across from the Atomic Bomb Dome on April 25.

The event, which was held across from the Atomic Bomb Dome,was created to raise awareness of the continuing invasion of Ukraine and appeal for peace.

“Guernica — Pray for Peace”
The painting is 3.5 meters tall and 7.8 meters wide. Approximately 200 people, mainly children, had a hand in the creation of the painting that depicts different trees in different seasons. On the leaves of the trees are handwritten messages of peace. The event also featured a concert by students with Ukrainian heritage. Participants were moved by the melody.

As someone who lives in Hiroshima and is vocal for peace,I knew that if there was ever a time for action, it was now. The kids took all of their emotions and put them into the paintings.As artists, we don’t really have a lot of power (to support those in need financially),but, through our work, I hope we can help support them emotionally.

The painting is set to be displayed in Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City.

チェルノブイリ・デーに合わせてウクライナへ想いを届けようと、広島のこどもたちの手で作られた作品が、４月２５日 原爆ドーム前で展示されました。

４月２５日、原爆ドーム前で開催されたこのイベントは、戦禍が続くウクライナへ想いを寄せ、平和を訴えようと企画されたものです。

作品名「ゲルニカPray for Peace」。作品は縦３．５メートル横７．８メートルで、こどもたちを中心におよそ２００人の手で四季折々の木々が描かれていて、葉っぱをイメージした一枚一枚には、平和へのメッセージが書かれています。

また ウクライナにルーツをもつ学生らによるコンサートも行われ、音色に合わせて平和への想いをひとつにしていました。

「広島に住んで、平和を訴える者として、この時やらなければどうするんだということで、くすぶる思いを爆発させた。美術家はなかなか（支援する）力がないので、絵を通じて 気持ちを支えることができればと思います。」

この作品は 来月（5月）、広島市西区での展示を予定しています。
