Enjoy a sightseeing trip while staying at home. We will deliver Gio-ji Temple, which is a small temple in Okusaga but is one of the hidden tourist attractions where the beauty of the moss is so beautiful that the precincts are dyed in green.
◆ The name of the temple comes from Giou, a woman who was later abandoned and left home after being favored by Taira no Kiyomori. The story of Giou’s tragic love is written in the classic Japanese literature, “Heike Monogatari,” and has brought tears to many people since ancient times.
◆ Although it is a small precinct that you can walk around in about 2 minutes, you will never get tired of seeing the green gradation pattern of moss created by the sunlight shining through the trees. Also, in late autumn, when the fallen leaves dye the precincts red like a crimson carpet, you can enjoy a different taste than usual.
◆ The large circular window inside the hermitage is called the “Yoshino window” and is opened toward the bamboo grove in the precincts, so the grid of the window and the bamboo outside intersect and the shadow looks rainbow-colored. Therefore, it is also called “Rainbow Window” and is one of the highlights of Giouji Temple.
