On May 27, the Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A-Bomb Sufferers Organization held their regular general meeting and protested the threat of nuclear weapon use by Russia in their invasion of Ukraine.

Approximately 50 hibakusha and other members attended the meeting where they strongly protested the threat of nuclear weapon use by Russia in their invasion of Ukraine. They also spoke up against government statements made about nuclear sharing, which could lead to reforms for Japan’s longstanding three non-nuclear principles.

They also agreed to strengthen their efforts to have Japan sign and ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which came into effect in January 2021.

As long as I am alive, I will continue to raise my voice for the abolition of nuclear weapons and seek the realization of this goal.

As the importance of passing down the experience of the hibakusha continues to grow, the organization will also step up efforts to ensure hibakusha testimonies are properly passed on to the next generation.

県被団協は５月２７日定期総会を開き、ロシアのウクライナ侵攻と核による威嚇に抗議しました。

被爆者などおよそ５０人が出席した定期総会では、ロシアによるウクライナへの軍事侵攻と核兵器使用の威嚇に対して強く抗議するとともに、「非核三原則」の見直しにつながりかねない国内の「核共有発言」に反対していくことを申し合わせました。

また日本政府に対しては、２０２１年１月に発効した「核兵器禁止条約」への署名・批准を求める活動をさらに強化していくことなども確認しました。

県被団協はヒロシマを語り継ぐことの重要性が増す中、被爆体験の継承に力を入れていくとしています。
