\/>\n[The 850-Year History of the Kishimoto Family]<br \/>\n1. Roots in Kishimoto-sho<br \/>\nIn the late Heian period, the Kishimoto ancestors served as manor officials in Kishimoto-sho, Omi Province. As a branch of the Seiwa Genji clan, they ruled the land under Minamoto no Yoshitomo, the father of Lord Yoshitsune.<br \/>\n2. Seeking Refuge in Kurama<br \/>\nFollowing the Heiji Rebellion in 1159, Minamoto no Yoshitomo was defeated. His youngest son, Shana-o (Yoshitsune), was sent to Kurama-dera Temple. A Kishimoto ancestor was one of the two loyal retainers who risked his life to escort the young lord to Kurama, leaving his homeland to protect the Genji legacy.<br \/>\n3. Guardians of the Spirit<br \/>\nWhen Yoshitsune fled to Oshu, the Kishimoto family remained to protect the Kurama Hachiman-gu Shrine. For 850 years, they have lived along the Kurama Highway. Today, &#8220;Kishimoto Ryuzo Shoten&#8221; stands as a testament to this unwavering loyalty.<br \/>\n4. Imperial Honor<br \/>\nIn 1473, their sincere service to Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado was recognized with the official court title &#8220;Yamashiro-no-shomoku, Kurama Betto,&#8221; marking a pinnacle of family honor.<br \/>\n5. Succession of the Name &#8220;Kishijuro IX&#8221;<br \/>\nIn 2009, Yuichi Kishimoto succeeded as &#8220;Kishijuro IX.&#8221; The name signifies &#8220;spreading joy cheerfully like a flourishing tree,&#8221; reflecting his mission as an Honorary Master Sak\u00e9 Sommelier and Saka Sho.<br \/>\n6. Marketing Japan to the World<br \/>\nIn 2010, he founded Area Promotion Japan Co., Ltd. with the mission: &#8220;Marketing Wonderful Kyoto, Japan to the World.&#8221; From Noh performances in LA to banquets at 3-Michelin-starred &#8220;Kikunoi,&#8221; he promotes Japanese culture and regional revitalization globally.<br \/>\n7. A Pilgrimage to the Roots<br \/>\nOn Feb 22, 2026, I visited my ancestral home in Nakakishimoto-cho.
