In Myoken Onsen, many ryokan are home to cats. It is said that this small hot spring town has one of the highest \u201ccat densities\u201d in Japan.<br \/>\nI walked slowly with the cats and spent quiet hours in my room, gazing at the river flowing outside. At night, in the dining hall warmed by floor heating from the hot spring, the cats gathered around. While absentmindedly watching them, I was gently welcomed into conversations with other guests.<br \/>\nFor generations, people have come here to rest and heal in the mineral waters \u2014 and that quiet culture of \u201ctouji\u201d still remains today.
