We start from Obira Town, Hokkaido. Obira Town Roadside Station “Obira Herring Banya” It’s early in the morning, so the tourist exchange center is not open. This is a spot along National Route 232 (Oloron Line) overlooking the Sea of Japan. Obira Herring Banya Roadside Station is proof of Hokkaido’s history as a prosperous area thanks to herring fishing. There is a statue of Matsuura Takeshiro, the man who named Hokkaido. A stone monument reads, “Swallows come straight to those who find comfort in their hearts.” A swallow flies straight under something that makes you feel comfortable. We continue north on the Ororon Line, and although it’s hard to see on the screen, we can see Teuri Island and Yagishiri Island. The wind is strong along the Ororon Line, and many wind power generation facilities have been installed. We have entered Tomamae Town. Tomamae Town is famous as the setting for the “Bear Incident (Tomamae Brown Bear Incident). ” The Sankebetsu Brown Bear Incident occurred in 1915, killing 7 people and injuring 3, and is said to be the worst bear attack in Japanese history. “Tomamaeda Bear” The symbol of the town, the brown bear monument. Many riders who come to Hokkaido take commemorative photos here. We continue north on the Ororon Line and enter Haboro Town. The symbol of Haboro Town is the “Oloron bird.” The bird is actually called the “Oloron bird.” Teuri Island in the Sea of Japan, off the coast of Haboro Town, is known as a breeding ground for common murres. They appear to stand upright, like penguins with black backs and white bellies. Driving through Shosanbetsu Village, we took a detour to Misakidai Park, where you’ll find the Shosanbetsu Astronomical Observatory. Overlooking the Sea of Japan, there’s little light pollution, making it a good environment for observing the Milky Way and meteor showers. The building in front of you on the left is the observatory. After using the restroom, we took a short walk through Misakidai Park . Here, you’ll find Misakidai Park Campground, one of Hokkaido’s most scenic camping spots, free to use and no reservations required. From here, you can even see Rishiri Island. Thank you for watching until the end. Please subscribe, click the like button, and leave a comment. Next time, we’ll continue with Part 2 of our Hokkaido Northern Trip: “Otonrui Wind Power Generation Drive.”

[Oloron Line] Sunset Drive to Cape Golden, Rumoi, Hokkaido

北海道道北旅 Part1 奴がいた！ 小平町・苫前町・羽幌町・初山別村 Hokkaido Northern Travel Part 1: He was there!
