In Izumo City, eastern Shimane Prefecture, lies a town that will pique your intellectual curiosity. It would be a shame to end your visit at Izumo Grand Shrine alone. But first, breakfast. A pure white building appears on the right. This is the coffee shop we visited. Its exterior alone is captivating. Near Lake Shinsei. Established in 1973. It was a shop that evoked Showa-era Japan. Shimane wines often have a fruity aroma and a refreshing, light mouthfeel. I had these croquettes last time I came too, and they&#8217;re really delicious because they use wine. Heading east from the winery. Today&#8217;s main destination: the Cotton Road. During the Edo period, this was a bustling road connecting Matsue to Izumo Grand Shrine Shops like sake breweries and soy sauce breweries, some over 100 years old, still remain here. These are the five types of soy sauce. Re-brewed soy sauce is beloved by people from Izumo to northern Kyushu. It&#8217;s not as sweet as Kyushu soy sauce, but it adds sweetness and thickness. There&#8217;s a culture of drizzling it sparingly over tofu, pickles, and such. This soy sauce is used in the dipping sauce for Izumo soba noodles. It also pairs well with cashew ice cream. While the exteriors may appear simple at first glance, many houses feature meticulous attention to timber and facades, reflecting the prosperity of the era. I like walking while imagining how lively it must have been back then. Mostly spicy flavors Any choice you make is the right one If you&#8217;re visiting Izumo Grand Shrine, please visit this shrine too Umi Shrine It&#8217;s famous as a shrine for severing ties.
