We’ve arrived in Yufuin, Oita Prefecture. It’s about a three-hour flight and bus ride from Tokyo to Yufuin. Yufuin’s hot springs boast some of Japan’s best- known townscapes and spring waters. You can also sample delicious food while walking around. There are plenty of trendy restaurants, and it’s always bustling with tourists, making it a highly recommended tourist spot! Today’s destination is the Yufuin Mameshiba Cafe. You can interact with the Mameshiba for 30 minutes, including one drink. It costs 1,000 yen per adult and 700 yen per child. You can also purchase it as a set with the cat cafe (1,500 yen). See the end of the video! After purchasing your ticket, head over to the Mameshiba ! They ‘re already interested in you, even though some are in sleep mode. We take off our shoes and enter the tatami room. They’re so close, it’s hard to know where to put your feet (lol). When we entered, a Mameshiba came right to our feet ! Is it hooked? We entered the cafe, reviewed the precautions on the video, and they came right after we put our luggage down! (Hello!) Many curious puppies came up to me, gently petting each one. They seemed to love playing and were very interested in the camera. Oh ! I spotted a Mame Shiba being petted by a staff member. Pay attention to its hind legs. It was my first time seeing such a cute Mame Shiba, moving around in comfort. This one came up to me and was very friendly. Many Mame Shiba puppies don’t like to be touched, but this one seems fine. It’s so relaxing! 😭 Apparently, this one’s cheeks stretch! So cute… The two with slightly raccoon-like faces … I thought they might be timid, but they suddenly opened up. They were playing with each other. Are they playing ? Are they fighting? Either way, they’re cute. Now, the white one starts messing around. 😂 And this one doesn’t seem to like being touched (lol) . It’s as if he’s saying, “Don’t touch me!” (lol) It’s a little sad… You can choose your drink from the list. I chose cocoa. I always keep the lid on to prevent dogs from getting burned. There’s also a toilet available. Yufuin has a paid toilet and limited stock, but they also sell a variety of small, convenient items. They ‘re all adorable ! ♡ The Mameshiba dogs at this cafe are all so cute! Mameshiba are actually a miniature Shiba Inu breed. While their personalities vary, they’re known for their loyalty and independence. Mameshiba dogs are very active, so they’re always on the move. The more they move, the faster they get sleepy. The Mameshiba dogs are slouched. They fell asleep . When they get tired from exercise, they get sleepy. Humans and Mameshiba dogs are the same. They’re maintaining their bodies… It’s cute to watch them being groomed . Some even make eye contact. They constantly stare outside, others sleep hidden behind the TV. The time flew by . If you’re in Yufuin, be sure to check out the Mameshiba Cafe! I’m sure you’ll be thoroughly soothed by the Mameshiba dogs . After playing with the Mameshiba, we headed to the cat cafe, “Norwegian Wood!” The cat cafe is introduced at the end of the video, so if you’re interested, please check it out! Thank you for the relaxing time. The staff were all very kind. Next, I’ll introduce you to some typical Yufuin cuisine: the Japanese restaurant “Sanshoro,” a hidden gem in the quiet countryside of Yufuin, a 10-minute walk from JR Yufuin Station. Everything here uses local Yufuin vegetables. This time, I’m ordering the Bungo beef steak lunch. While I’m waiting… here it is! The Bungo beef steak lunch features beautifully marinated meat, colorful vegetables, pickles, and miso soup . Bungo beef is a brand of Japanese black beef from Oita Prefecture. It looks like I’ll be able to enjoy both Yufuin’s vegetables and meat! The miso soup, made with local miso, was also exquisite. Both the meat and vegetables were truly delicious! I was completely satisfied! I went outside and took some photos while the sun was still shining. The rural scenery and Mount Yufu were absolutely beautiful . I returned to the center of Yufuin. The river that flows through Yufuin is truly beautiful. It’s a pure stream. COMICO ART MUSEUM YUFUIN is a contemporary art museum showcasing works by Japan’s leading artists, including Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara . Speaking of Yufuin, it’s a city famous for its foodie scene. Among the many pudding shops, the pudding dorayaki is overwhelmingly popular. There were so many different kinds of dorayaki, it was hard to choose ! I paid the bill. I managed to get the pudding dorayaki for 250 yen each ! It was filled with more pudding than it looked, and it was satisfying! It’s a must-try dish for any foodie stroll through Yufuin! Next up is Tenjo Sajiki, one of Yufuin’s most famous coffee shops . I was seated by the window with a great view. The shop is located right next to Lake Kinrin, and has a relaxing atmosphere. Enjoy the autumn leaves in November. There are many items on the menu, but I ordered the recommended pork cutlet sandwich. First, the salad from the set arrived . I couldn’t resist the coffee, so I had it brought to me first . Their specialty is the katsu sandwich , made with locally-branded pork, characterized by its high-quality meat and juiciness. They also specialize in their homemade mustard, which they say is homemade. The almond tofu dessert is bite-sized and delicious. The bread is perfectly toasted, with a lovely aroma and texture. The black coffee after the meal is especially delicious. Yufuin is bustling, so the calm atmosphere is soothing. Next, we’ll introduce a popular spot in Yufuin . As we walked along the river, admiring the vibrant carp, we arrived at Lake Kinrin. (This photo was taken in November.) This magical sight can be seen early in the mornings between mid-November and February. The sudden drop in outside temperature creates a phenomenon known as the hot spring water gushing out. Definitely check it out! Next, we visited Yufuin Floral Village , a British-style mini theme park recreating the streets of a British town. There were even rabbits and guinea pigs. We even saw some adorable goats! 🦆 You can feed the goats for just 100 yen! They’re incredibly energetic (lol). It’s a very popular spot for kids! It’s a place where you can easily interact with animals. There were also these cute creatures – a squirrel! There were so many small animals, it was very relaxing! I returned to the main street of Yufuin. This is another shop I’ve been interested in for a while. It’s a sweets shop that uses roasted sweet potatoes. They also have a Japanese-style umbrella sunshade. The crispy caramelized surface is irresistible… The sweet potato is creamy and smooth, and melts in your mouth. The caramelized adds an accent to the texture, and the balance with the sweetness is exquisite. There were also several other sweets that used sweet potatoes – this is also a very famous shop in Yufuin, “Gold Award Croquette”. Apparently , this croquette won the gold award at the 1st National Croquette Competition (lol). “B-speak” is a very popular sweets shop . I got permission to take photos inside the shop and went inside . The most popular item is the roll cake. If you don’t make a reservation, you can hardly get it on the day. The next most popular item is the cheesecake . The Earl Grey cheesecake is especially delicious. Their cutely shaped tea leaf chocolates are also popular as souvenirs and gifts. They also have other stylish sweets you’d find overseas. Apparently , this shop was founded with the desire to create snacks for local children. It’s lovely. I bought an Earl Grey cheesecake! I’ll share a little bit about my experience trying it at home! The moment I opened it, I was greeted by the refreshing aroma of cheese and Earl Grey. The three-layered shape is beautiful…and delicious… the flavor is rich yet not too sweet. The Earl Grey aroma enhances the more mature flavor. It’s getting dark, so I’m going to have dinner before heading home . This is my third visit to Fukusuke, where they serve excellent chicken broth ramen . I definitely recommend it. The soup is golden brown and the chicken broth is incredibly flavorful. The charcoal-grilled local chicken is also excellent, and the noodles are thin and curly. It mixes well with the soup . The soup is so delicious that I drink it all every time. I recommend adding yuzu kosho towards the end. Oita is known for its delicious citrus fruits, and adding yuzu kosho makes it even more delicious! This is my personal number one recommendation for gourmet food in Yufuin! Finally, I’d like to introduce the cat cafe. The first floor is filled with cat goods, as you can see here. There were lots of cute and unique cat goods. You can enter this cat cafe with a set ticket that also includes the Mameshiba Cafe. The set price for Norwegian Wood and the Mameshiba Cafe is 1,500 yen, but if you purchase the set, you save about 300 yen.
