Right now, I’m at Asakusa Station. Today I’m taking the Spacia X train on Tobu Railway to visit Kinugawa Onsen for the first time! So, what’s Spacia X? It’s a brand-new limited express that runs between Asakusa and Nikko/Kinugawa Onsen. Last time, I only went as far as Tobu-Nikko, so this is my first time going to Kinugawa Onsen. I’m super excited! It’s a different season this time, and I’ve booked a different seat type too. So I’ll be sharing a totally new vibe with you guys! Alrighty, let’s go! *Shockingly, my rain girl curse didn’t activate today! Found it! 2:00 PM – Spacia X No.9 bound for Kinugawa Onsen That’s the one! It says all seats are reserved, and when I checked online, almost everything was sold out. All earlier trains were already full. So today I’m going with the 2:00 PM departure. *It said fully booked online… *But the signboard here shows plenty of seats?? You can’t start a trip without a good ekiben! So I’m grabbing one here. Everything looks so good. Last time I tried the special Spacia X bento. So today I think I’ll switch it up and try something new. They sell drinks here too, but they also sell them on the train, so I’ll just wait and buy it onboard. *Currently scoping out ekiben options like a hawk. By the way, it’s my first time back at Asakusa Station since I last rode the Spacia X. Seems like I only come here when I’m riding that train lately. If I go up this escalator, I should see the platform up ahead. If my memory’s correct, that is… *Least reliable memory ever. I booked my ticket through a site called “Tobu Ticket.” The payment was already done online, so there’s no need to issue a ticket. Just show the purchase screen to the station staff, and you’re good to go! No hassle at all! I’ve made it inside the ticket gate! I thought showing the purchase screen would be enough to get in, but… Turns out it was just the express ticket. They told me I also needed a base fare ticket. So I just used my Suica card to get in. It’s 1:44 PM now, so I’ll wait for the Spacia X to arrive. Spacia X No. 9 to Kinugawa Onsen is now arriving. Perfect timing—there’s the announcement! I’m excited! Totally pumped right now. Spacia X is here! It really does look so cool. *Looks like it could time travel or something. I booked Car 1 for this trip, which is all the way at the front. It’s super hot today… I feel like I’m melting out here… I need to get inside ASAP. Car 1 is the very front, so it’s the farthest walk… *A little stroll before my ekiben feast. *Finally boarding the Spacia X! This is the Cockpit Lounge in Car 1. Here’s my seat! Wow, it’s super spacious. It said “sold out” when I booked, but it’s actually pretty empty. Maybe people get on at later stops? *Right after boarding, they check your express ticket. *Just show the confirmation email and you’re good. *Super easy and stress-free. Oh, we’re moving! It departed right on time at 2:00 PM. Yay! So excited! Alright, let’s kick off my Spacia X ride to Kinugawa Onsen for the first time! Let’s make the most of it! And coming into view ahead of us is the Sumida River. It reminds me of that time I took a yakatabune alone. *It was a fun little nightmare. Snapping some selfies now while the train’s still empty. There was a menu on the table, and it said people in Cars 1 and 6 can go to the café freely. (VIP access!) Normally you need a reservation, but if you’re in Car 1, you’re good without one. The café doesn’t take cash—only cards or transit IC cards like Suica or PASMO. It’s more for drinks than meals, like these kinds of beverages, or snacks and souvenirs. They’ve also got sweets and desserts you can order. Since I’m here, I might as well grab a drink. Once we reach Shimo-Imaichi, the café closes, so I’ll have to order before that. Luckily, I’ve got a two-hour ride ahead, so there’s definitely time. *Seriously tempted by the beer… Looks like we’re stopping at Kitasenju next. Actually, I have a birthday event there in two months! Yup, it’s happening at Kitasenju. So technically, you could take the Spacia X to get there too. And that, folks, was an unplanned promo. We’re arriving at Kitasenju shortly. By the way, the venue for the birthday event is on the top floor of that building back there. Wait… is the venue shy or something? It just ducked out of sight. There it is. See you on August 9th at the Tokyo Geijutsu Center! Here’s the view from the front seat— I couldn’t see this last time! What an amazing view. This is an announcement from the GOEN Café in Car 1 on board Spacia X. Today, due to available seating, no online reservation is required to use the café for takeout. Please enjoy your purchase at your own seat. For guests in Cars 2 through 5, sales will be available from 2:40 PM to 3:30 PM. I’m gonna head to the café now! Hi there! One Nikkorino, please. That’ll be 680 yen. I’ll pay with Suica. *Not exactly a “smile-worthy” price, but hey—it’s a souvenir! *This is when I start awkwardly glancing around the most. Went with the Nikkorino this time. I debated getting alcohol… but I’m on a break from drinking. I want to explore Kinugawa Onsen when I arrive, so probably too early to start drinking! I held back. Yum! Apparently it’s made with sparkling water and pears grown in Tochigi Prefecture. For lunch, I picked an Asakusa Imahan bento. This is dangerous… It looks amazing. Let’s dig in! They don’t sell food on Spacia X, so if I hadn’t gotten a bento, I would’ve been in trouble. The sweet, juicy meat is just too good… The weather’s great too—what a perfect start. *Maybe I’ve finally graduated from being a rain magnet? This is dangerously delicious… I thought this last time too, but seriously— Spacia X is so comfortable. The seats are super cushy, and there’s plenty of space. Feels just like chilling in my own living room. We’ll soon be arriving at Kasukabe Station. Doors will open on the left. At Kasukabe, the doors for Cars 2 and 5 will be the ones that open. Looks like we’re stopping at Kasukabe next. That was fast! We’ve already made it to the holy land of Shin-chan. Next stop after Kasukabe is Tochigi, apparently. They’re really speeding through! Is Tochigi actually that close to Kasukabe? We’ll be in Tochigi before you know it. After passing Kasukabe, the scenery totally changes— It’s all peaceful countryside from here. I love Shin-chan so much, so I’m secretly geeking out right now. Got myself some dessert! Milk gelato! Let’s eat! Cold stuff just hits different in summer. *In summer, gelato basically becomes a series regular. We’re crossing the Tone River now, which means we’re finally entering Tochigi Prefecture. It hasn’t even been an hour since we left Asakusa, so yeah, the ride went by pretty quick. Alright, time to explore the train a little! There are Cars 1 through 6 on this train, and I’m around here right now. Cars 1 and 2 have luggage storage areas, and they let me store my suitcase for free! Car 2 is where you’ll find the Premium Seats. They have power recliners and headrests— super comfy seating for sure. There’s plenty of space too, with solo seats on one side and rows of two on the other. It feels open and relaxing—perfect for the ride. And this is Car 3! The seats look like this, and you can rotate them, so you can sit face-to-face with four people. *Assuming you have friends, that is. Between Cars 5 and 6, there are sinks and restrooms like this. And now we’re in Car 6. Car 6 has private compartments and the Cockpit Suite rooms. But you can’t go in without a ticket. *Access denied. If you don’t have a ticket, you’re not allowed past this point. Last time, I rode in a compartment, but I haven’t tried the Cockpit Suite yet. If you ride the Cockpit Suite alone, you have to pay for all six seats—around $150! I really want to try it someday though. That wraps up the train tour! Time to head back. Let’s go. The real perk of Car 1 is definitely this view. Passengers in Cars 2 through 6 can’t come up here— they’re stopped halfway. So if you want that up-close view from the driver’s seat, I totally recommend booking a seat in Car 1. We’ve just arrived at Shimo-Imaichi Station. They said onboard sales end here. And in just a little while, we’ll be arriving at Kinugawa Onsen. Apparently, this train doesn’t stop at Nikko today. I guess if it’s heading to Kinugawa Onsen, it skips Nikko altogether? The train has departed from Shimo-Imaichi and is now headed toward Kinugawa Onsen. The scenery is totally different from my last ride— it seriously smells like summer. *Big summer fan, even though I never leave the house. At Shin-Takatoku Station, I spotted a train called the SL Taiju. It was my first time seeing a real steam engine, so I was kinda amazed! I’d love to ride one of those old-school trains someday. We’re almost at the final stop. We’ll be arriving at Kinugawa Onsen. Doors will open on the right. Please don’t forget anything, and watch your step as you exit. Thank you for riding with Tobu Railway today. *The station staff kindly offered to take a photo! They even gave me a card. I’m so happy! *Certified Spacia X card holder. I’ve arrived at Kinugawa Onsen! It was blazing hot at noon, but somehow I brought the rain… Guess it’s my fault. Rainy girl mode activated again. That over there is the Kinuta statue. I left Kinugawa Onsen Station and made my way to the onsen town. Right now I’m standing on Fureai Bridge. It’s raining, but I don’t care— I finally made it to Kinugawa Onsen! This bridge is called Fureai-bashi, and it crosses over the Kinugawa River. You get a really nice view of the river from up here. *At least that’s what Google says. This is Kinugawa River! The view is absolutely beautiful. Kinugawa Onsen is a classic hot spring town that dates back to the Edo period. It still has that old-school vibe. Though sadly, a lot of hotels here have shut down recently. But I personally really love this kind of atmosphere. Still, the area seems to be struggling. Let’s go, Kinugawa! Time to shine! *Totally pretending I’m the local ambassador. After that, I went hunting for food— I wandered around a lot… But not a single place was open. So yeah, my food tour dreams sadly came to a quiet end. The dream of snacking my way through town… gone. So today, I rode the Spacia X and made my way to Kinugawa Onsen! It was honestly such a comfy ride. If you’re in the Cockpit Lounge, you can use the café in Car 1 without a reservation, and you get a great view from the driver’s seat area too. It really felt special. The sofa was super roomy, nice and squishy, really comfy to sit on, and the view was amazing— I had such a great two-hour ride! But actually… I originally wanted to book a solo seat today, but they were all taken. So I ended up reserving a 4-person seat. The thing is, those are only available for 2 or more people, so I had to pay for two people… That part kinda hurt. I got hit with the “solo tax.” Anyway, from here on, I’ll be staying one night at Kinugawa Onsen. I found a super interesting hotel, so I’ll be sharing that next time! But it’s not just a regular hotel stay— it’s kinda like a training camp too. So look forward to that in the next video! Thanks so much for watching all the way to the end today!
