It is said that the ritual was revived around the Tenpo era to appease the spirit of the Sessho-seki and to prevent disasters.It is revered by the common people and is said to have the power to promote industry and prosperity in business.<br \/>\n\u203bSessho-seki originates from the legend of the nine-tailed fox<br \/>\nAt the end of the Heian period, Tamamo-no-Mae, who was favored by Emperor Toba, was a nine-tailed fox (demon fox), and after her true identity was discovered, she escaped from the palace.The punitive force, led by the onmyoji Abe Yasunari as their military strategist, defeated the nine-tailed fox in Nasunohara, Shimotsuke Province (around Nasu County, Tochigi Prefecture), but the nine-tailed fox that was defeated turned into a giant poisonous stone.
