Located at small hill aside Shinano-gawa river, it exists at middle of Nagano area and Joetsu area and worked as connecting point of both areas. Originally it was built by local lord Izumi clan but later became home castle of Takanashi clan that belonged to Uesugi clan. Uesugi clan strenghtned it as front line castle toward Takeda clan, and later used by the base of Iiyama domain in Edo era.
