It is called &#8220;Hell Hill.&#8221; Halfway up this hill, there is a sacred building. &#8220;Catholic Otaru Church (Tomioka Cathedral).&#8221; The exterior is mainly Gothic style, and it was built in 1929, so it will soon be 100 years old. This church has a cute, slightly fairy-tale-like expression, and its colorful octagonal turret and white windows are soothing to look at. Here, foreigners visiting Otaru and local believers pray to God. It is also designated as a historical building by the city of Otaru, and has received the Cityscape Award, playing a part in the beautiful scenery of Otaru. Tourists also come here, and it is also used as a location for TV dramas and other productions. Anyone, even non-believers, can enter the cathedral, and personal photography is permitted.
