The name &#8220;Rishiri&#8221; comes from the Ainu word &#8220;ri -shir,&#8221; which means high mountain. Mt. Rishiri is a beautiful cone-shaped mountain, also called &#8220;Rishiri Fuji&#8221; because of its appearance, and attracts many climbers, especially during the summer season. On Rishiri Island, as on Rebun Island, the beautiful natural scenery is protected as part of the Rishiri Rebun Sarobetsu National Park.
