I stayed at a guesthouse in the Yoka Gokoku district, which features many buildings from the Edo period that have been preserved in their original form. While enjoying local cuisine, I explored the town. Preserving a townscape is not a simple task; once an area is designated for preservation, homeowners can’t freely renovate their houses. Initially, many people opposed this idea, but city officials went door-to-door explaining its significance, gradually gaining support over time. During the Edo period, Uchiko belonged to the Ozu domain and greatly contributed to the finances of both the domain and the Uchiko area through its local wood wax industry. I learned about this history by visiting a museum housed in a former wealthy merchant’s residence from that era. (Next, I’ll share a video focusing on the moon-viewing event.)

Who am I?
🙋🏻‍♀️ I am sugoroku and now on a journey to travel to 47 prefectures in Japan by my trike 🛺 I would like my videos to be valuable to those interested in my country.
