Hokkai Bon Odori dance in Mikasa City, Hokkaido, Japan

To recreate the Bon Odori dance as it was performed during the peak of the coal mining era, we have revived a massive, 3-tier, 8-meter-high Yagura scaffold in Mikasa City’s Central Park. We are committed to passing down the long-standing tradition of the “Mikasa Hokkai Bon Odori” to future generations.
The dancers forming multiple, concentric rings to the sound of “live singing” and “live music”—our biggest features—is a true symbol of Mikasa’s summer. Seeing people of all ages dancing together as one brings to life a sense of community, tradition, and strong local bonds.
The dance itself features simple movements, making it easy for beginners to join in. We invite you to wear a yukata and enjoy a moment at the end of summer, from August 13th to the 15th.
