皆様、こんにちは！京都の語り部であり、世界を旅するYouTuber、キッシー®︎です。本日私は、冬の冷たい空気が心地よく肌を刺すこの季節、日本が世界に誇るジャパニーズウイスキーの故郷「サントリー山崎蒸溜所」へとやって参りました。2026年1月22日のライブ録画として、その現地の熱気と静謐な美しさをお届けします。
■ 意外と知らない？山崎の「境界線」と歴史
動画の冒頭でもお話ししていますが、実はここ山崎蒸溜所は、京都府ではなく「大阪府三島郡島本町山崎」に位置しています。すぐ東側にある大山崎町は京都府なのですが、西側のここは大阪府。まさに京都と大阪の県境に建つこの蒸溜所は、1923年に着工されました。サントリー（当時は寿屋）の創業者・鳥井信治郎氏が、本格的なウイスキーづくりを目指してこの地を選んだのは、何よりも「水」の質が決め手でした。
■ 聖地を支える「名水」と「気候」
山崎は古くから名水の地として知られ、万葉の歌にも詠まれています。桂川、宇治川、木津川の三つの川が合流するこの場所は、一年を通じて霧が発生しやすく、湿潤な気候がウイスキーの熟成に最適なのです。動画内では、雪がちらつく厳しい寒さの中、蒸溜所を囲む豊かな自然と、そこから生み出される「命の水」の物語について触れています。
■ 蒸溜所の象徴：ポットスチルと「やってみなはれ」の精神
エントランス近くには、ウイスキーづくりに欠かせない巨大な蒸溜器（ポットスチル）の模型が鎮座しています。これこそが、大麦麦芽からあの琥珀色の液体を生み出す心臓部。サントリーの歴史を象徴するこの場所には、創業者・鳥井信治郎氏の有名な言葉「やってみなはれ」の精神が今も息づいています。
また、展示エリアでは、サントリーが世界展開する「ジムビーム」やスコットランドの「ボウモア」など、グローバルなネットワークについても紹介しています。アイラ島の海風を感じるボウモアの話など、キッシー®︎流の世界旅行記も交えながら、ウイスキーの奥深い世界へと皆様をご案内します。
■ 偉大なる先人たちへの敬意
動画の後半では、サントリーの礎を築いた鳥井信治郎氏、そして二代目社長として「世界のサントリー」へと押し上げた佐治敬三氏の銅像を訪ねています。佐治氏は関西経済連合会の会長を務めるなど、経済界の巨人としても知られていますが、その温かな眼差しは今もこの蒸溜所を見守っているかのようです。彼らの情熱と「物づくり」への執念があったからこそ、今日の山崎ウイスキーがあるのだと、改めて深い感銘を受けました。

[Kissy®︎’s Winter Excursion: Visiting the Sanctuary of Japanese Whisky, Suntory Yamazaki Distillery]
Hello everyone! This is Kissy®︎, your Kyoto storyteller and world-traveling YouTuber. Today, in the crisp and chilly air of winter, I have come to the birthplace of Japan’s world-renowned whisky: the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery. This is a live recording from January 22, 2026, capturing the vibrant yet serene atmosphere of this historic site.
■ The “Boundary” and History of Yamazaki
As I mention at the start of the video, many people assume the Yamazaki Distillery is in Kyoto, but it is actually located in Shimamoto Town, Osaka Prefecture. While the adjacent Oyamazaki area is in Kyoto, this distillery sits right on the border. Construction began in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, who chose this specific location for one primary reason: the exceptional quality of the “water.”
■ Blessed Water and the Perfect Climate
Yamazaki has long been famous for its pure water, even mentioned in ancient Japanese poetry. Situated where the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu Rivers meet, the area is prone to misty, humid conditions—ideal for the aging process of whisky. Despite the light snow and biting cold during this visit, I share the story of the “Water of Life” born from this rich natural environment.
■ Symbols of the Distillery: Pot Stills and the “Yatte Minahare” Spirit
Near the entrance stands a model of the massive pot stills, the heart of the distillation process that transforms malt into liquid gold. This site embodies the spirit of “Yatte Minahare” (Go for it!)—the famous motto of founder Shinjiro Torii.
In the exhibition area, I also introduce Suntory’s global portfolio, including Jim Beam and the Scottish Islay whisky, Bowmore. I share some of my own travel stories, such as the salty sea breeze of Bowmore, taking you on a journey through the profound world of global spirits.
■ Paying Respect to the Founders
In the latter half of the video, I visit the statues of Shinjiro Torii and Keizo Saji, the second president who turned Suntory into a global powerhouse. Saji-san was a titan of the business world, yet his legacy remains deeply rooted in the craftsmanship of this distillery. I was deeply moved by their passion and dedication to “Monozukuri” (the art of making things).
