青梅街道と並行する県道201号線沿いを散策しました。
この地域にしかない珍しい古民家があります。
茅葺切妻主屋という正面の突き上げ屋根が特徴的です。
茅葺屋根はほとんど姿を消し、現在はトタン屋根です。
茅の入手困難、葺き替え継承者の減少が原因です。
トタン屋根になっても個性的な外観は変わりません。
ある身分以上の者だけが設置することができました。
周辺には茅葺切妻主屋がチラホラ見られます。
比較的、裕福な家が多かったようです。
当時の人々は養蚕業や炭焼きで生計を立てていました。
蚕の餌となる桑が所々に生えているのが名残りです。
タバコ、麦、米の栽培もしていました。
1970年代には果樹中心の農業に変わっていきました。
桃、ブドウ、スモモ、キウイなど。
時代が変わってもこの風景が残ってほしいものです。
