The animals are delicious – we have to wait for the sake! Traveling around Japan by car – Hokkaido edition On the third day of my trip to Hokkaido with a Korean friend, I left Asahikawa to go eat some new soba noodles in Horokanai. Asahikawa – Horokanai Horokanai is the number one soba village in Japan. The peak harvest season is from September to October. After the harvest, the buckwheat fields are dyed pink with the red stalks remaining. Wow, what’s with those pink fields? I’m going to have lunch – the soba restaurant I was looking for is inside the Horokanai Communication Plaza. Horokanai Soba Yukitsukihana Zaru Soba and Mini Tendon Kakiage Soba Thank you for the meal The pale green soba was very delicious Tonight’s accommodation is Asahikawa – Horokanai, Toyotomi Town, Teshio District The accommodation is a type with a shared space and kitchen like a guesthouse I will buy some ingredients and cook tonight I’m heading out for sunset, but be careful as animals come out when it gets dark! It was a deer , and it hopped away! Hey hey hey 😁 Don’t come near me! 18:00 Toyotomi Town We traveled 225km from Asahikawa to Toyotomi Town in just under 4 hours! This and that ! We arrived at the inn. I grilled saury and Atka mackerel, and my friend made Korean dried cod soup for us. We toasted with Sapporo beer! We opened a bottle of “Northern Hydrangea,” a beer sold exclusively at the brewery that we bought at Otokoyama . It had a refreshing taste that my husband seemed to like. GOOD MORNING We headed to a facility within Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu National Park. It looked like Rishiri Fuji was visible across the sea. 10:20 View from the observation deck of Kobone House . I think Rishiri Fuji is probably covered in clouds? This waterside is home to “water plants” and apparently flowers similar to water lilies bloom there “Ruger’s Rose” grows on the sandy coast Wakkanai city 23km, 6km above sea level We go to a gas station to refuel and also get the car washed ↑Wakkanai city ←Cape Noshappu Noshappu Cold Current Aquarium Hokkaido Soya Fureai Park The distance to the next gas station is long in Hokkaido so we drive while keeping a closer eye on the gas meter than usual From around October, small greasy insects called “snow bugs” appear and make our cars dirty We use a jet sprayer to wash away the bugs stuck to the car beforehand It ‘s now clean We’re off to eat lunch! A steep hill 12:00 Wakkanai city This is it! This is it! I’ll have the Musashi salt ramen with gluten . It’s delicious! The broth of this salt ramen is apparently made with Rishiri kelp, giving it a rich flavor. It’s black pepper, not white pepper . This popular restaurant in Wakkanai is famous for its salmon chazuke. Delicious! Salmon chazuke. First, I’ll have it as a salmon bowl, then pour the restaurant’s signature broth over it and turn it into chazuke! Delicious! It’s a completely different dish. Thank you for the meal ! Heading to Cape Soya. 14:00. Cape Soya. Leave your camera there! Let’s take some photos! The Northernmost Point in Japan. Heading to Sarufutsu Village. Cape Soya – Sarufutsu. Our next destination is the straight road connecting Sarufutsu to Hamatonbetsu Town, commonly known as the Esanuka Line. Turning here will take you to the entrance of the Esanuka Line. 16:00. Sarufutsu Village. Tonight’s accommodation is Monbetsu. A long drive of about 3 hours! Once again, I ended up driving on a dark road. Sarufutsu – Monbetsu. 7pm. Arrived at Monbetsu Inn. Let’s go for a drink ( Sakura Spirits staff). It’s radish pickled in beer. Pickled in beer? Shall we have a toast ? Cheers. Delicious radish pickled in beer . Sweet , sweet? Battera Battera is sushi, and even though it’s pickled, it has the spiciness of radish. It’s delicious, delicious, and goes well with sake. The squid guts sashimi is cold 🧊. You have to wait for the sake. I ordered three types of sake. First, from “Densake”, Densake Tokubetsu Junmai Nakaguchi Densake, Densake 😁 This is the first time I’ve tried this sake, “Isojiman”, Isojiman Junmai Ginjo Dry. Pork plum and shiso thick skewer with lots of mustard. This is like beer. I also had the ankylosaurus liver sashimi with “Isojiman” 😁 It’s sure to be delicious 😁 (Squid guts sashimi) The miso is delicious. Either way, Nito and Nito Junmai Ginjo Medium. Chew it well and the sweetness of the squid is great. Delicious. Large chicken wing skewers. Spicy 🔥 Eat it with mustard. Offal skewers go well with sake . Pork chopsticks are hot 🔥 This is delicious . Grilled hokke . You can eat the bones. This is delicious atka mackerel , brimming with fat . Wow, it’s delicious. The offal is delicious . Sorry. Thank you for the other draft beer ! I was full and very satisfied! GOOD MORNING ! From here, we head south towards eastern Hokkaido. That ‘s all for today.
