米国人アーティストのロバート・バルガスさんが2日、酒田市の酒田港東ふ頭交流施設ＳＡＫＡＴＡＮＴＯ（サカタント）で、酒田舞娘（まいこ）の壁画制作を開始した。バルガスさんは米大リーグ、ドジャースの本拠地ロサンゼルスで大谷翔平選手を描いた巨大壁画の作者として知られ、今回の壁画は縦約4メートル、横約5メートル。「酒田舞娘や芸妓（げいこ）の存在、素晴らしさを後世に伝える作品にしたい」と意気込む。
