Hello everyone! I’m Naru! The “Okuzashiki” (inner retreat) of Kyoto,
the millennium capital. I visited Yunohana Onsen (hot springs)! Kyoto Prefecture is long from north to south. Yamashiro, Kyoto City, Nantan,
Chutan, and Tango. It is divided into these five areas! The Kyoto City area is located in the Kyoto Basin,
surrounded by mountains on three sides. The mountains of Higashiyama,
Kitayama, and Nishiyama act like natural castle walls, and have continued to protect this capital. Heian-kyo, established as the
capital here in 794, eventually came to be called
“Raku” (the capital). Rakuchu (Central), Rakuto (East), Rakusai (West),
Rakunan (South), and Rakuhoku (North). It became common to refer
to these five divisions. And throughout its long history, Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Kinkaku-ji Temple (Golden Pavilion),
Arashiyama, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, etc. countless famous places emerged. This time, we are heading to “Yunohana Onsen,” the inner retreat of Kyoto. This hot spring area in Kameoka City is said to be where warlords of the
Sengoku period (Warring States period) came to heal their wounds. It’s a historic therapeutic hot spring! Kameoka, where Yunohana Onsen
is located, and Arashiyama are connected by the Hozugawa River. You can go down the approximately 16km gorge
from Kameoka to Arashiyama via the Hozugawa River Boat Ride, or take the Sagano Scenic Railway (Torokko Train) while enjoying the spectacular views
of the Hozukyo Gorge. These connect the two areas. About access! Tokyo Station → Kyoto Station:

Approx. 15 minutes by Shinkansen (Bullet Train) From Kyoto Station to Arashiyama, it takes about 15 minutes
to Saga-Arashiyama Station. We’ve arrived at the Togetsukyo Bridge! We’re here. It’s so beautiful! This really feels like the Togetsukyo Bridge. That bridge is just great! The bridge is great! It was first built in the Heian period (836). Apparently, it has been destroyed several times
due to river flooding and such. The view is amazing! And the weather is great! This Arashiyama area, you see, was a villa area for the Heian nobility! It feels like that! There’s the river and the forest. It has a high-class feel! Well then, let’s enjoy our time here today! The view from the Togetsukyo Bridge
is beautiful too! Nice! It’s cool! It’s super refreshing! See that mountain? The flat one! That’s called Mt. Ogura. Oh really, Ogura? Why? What! I don’t know the origin
of the mountain’s name… I thought you’d know since
you’re the expert. 😂 When I look at that mountain,
I’m reminded of a poem. What is it? Ah, it goes something like that. What’s that? I have no idea what you mean. It’s not getting across at all. It’s one of the Hyakunin Isshu (One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each)
composed by Fujiwara no Tadahira! “Autumn leaves on the peak of Mt. Ogura,
if you have a heart, the Emperor will be visiting soon. So please wait until then without falling.”
That’s the meaning of the poem. So he wanted to show the autumn leaves?
To the Emperor? The autumn leaves are beautiful!
On Mt. Ogura. I see. It’s certainly green now, though. It’s almost autumn, so… I just happened to recall the poem… Tenryu-ji Temple: The head temple of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism,
founded by Ashikaga Takauji in 1339. The World Heritage site,
Sogenchi Teien (Sogen Pond Garden), and the mystical Cloud Dragon painting in the
Hatto (Dharma Hall) boast exquisite beauty! The Sogenchi Garden is
incredibly beautiful. It is beautiful. There’s the pond, and the mountains in the background too. The scenery changes with the seasons, so it’s beautiful! It seems like it would be
nice in winter too. It looks great in any season! The greenery right now is lovely! The green and the bright blue sky! It’s definitely nice because it’s sunny! It creates a wonderful atmosphere. It’s cool here! Just the garden is nice, but it’s really great when you go inside. It’s different. The view from here is beautiful, and you can look out over it. Exactly. I recommend it. A 210-year-old historic building, a thatched-roof Kyoto Prefectural
Designated Cultural Property, renovated into a bakery cafe. While gazing at the Karesansui
(dry landscape garden), you can enjoy home-roasted coffee and a luxurious menu featuring
Japanese ingredients! This cafe is so stylish, I’m super excited! Amazing, Kyoto never disappoints! Everything looked delicious! Look at this! It’s duck and green onion! It’s Kamo-negi! (A classic combination) A Kamo-negi panini. Delicious! Because it has green onions,
it feels quite Japanese. It really is duck and onion! It feels Japanese! I think there might be
soy sauce jelly in it… The bread too. It looks crispy. You can softly smell the butter. Delicious! This bread is good. I’ve always wanted to come to this cafe, so I’m happy I finally made it! I’ll savor the joy while eating. This place is an oasis. It’s cool! A summer oasis. Arashiyama is stylish, isn’t it? The townscape. Of course it is. Really? Did you know that? This is Kyoto! I know, but… I only had the image of school trips. So what? I just realized how stylish it is. It’s seriously delicious! He has a peaceful look on his face. So this is where we come out! Is it the Kamogawa River? It’s not the Kamogawa River! What is it again? We came out at the Katsuragawa River! Is this the Katsuragawa River? We saw it this morning. It’s the river the Togetsukyo Bridge crosses! Where does the Katsuragawa River flow to? Osaka Bay! Really? What! How did you know! Correct! It eventually flows into “Osaka Bay.” In Kyoto, it’s the Katsuragawa River, but when you go towards Kameoka,
the name changes! It’s the “Hozugawa River,” right? Then what does it become in Osaka? It’s the “Yodogawa River”! How do you know that? Isn’t it obvious? It’s common knowledge. Oh no. Maybe the reputation of not knowing
common knowledge has been cleared. (I don’t think anyone believes Masa lacks common sense,
but I’ll keep quiet for his sake! 😇 Lol) We’ll walk along the Katsuragawa River for a bit! The water is so clear! Yusaitei: Where the great novelist Yasunari Kawabata
wrote “The Sound of the Mountain.” A dyeing art gallery renovated from a 150-year-old
Ryotei Ryokan (traditional Japanese restaurant/inn). The beautiful scenery viewed
from the round windows and the fantastic reflections are popular! Reservation required
Admission fee: ¥2,000 This whole building is art. The room with the water jugs
is also very beautiful. It looks refreshing. Yes! It was cool! The dyed fabrics visible outside are incredibly beautiful! Everything contributes to the cool atmosphere! The air conditioning was working,
so it was super cool! Lol It had a different kind of beauty
than a temple. It felt artistic. It’s accessible art. It was really great. It’s very photogenic too. It was a lovely spot! Arashiyama Yusaitei ▷ Arashiyama Park Kameyama Area Summit Observation Deck
Approx. 10 min walk 🚶‍♀️ The path is paved, but it continues uphill! It’s super hot, but we made it to the top! It was close! We worked hard for about 10 minutes! The view is incredible! I can see boats. This is the gorge. Boats go through such a narrow place. That’s certainly amazing. The river width is quite narrow. It must require expert skill. I’m curious about that temple
over there too! Indeed! On such a cliff. It’s amazing they built a temple there! Arashiyama Park Kameyama Area Summit Observation Deck ▷ Jojakko-ji Temple
Approx. 20 min walk 🚶‍♀️ We will pass through the Bamboo Grove path. I wonder how many meters tall they are? There were many people on the Bamboo Grove path! Jojakko-ji Temple: A Nichiren sect temple founded in 1596. Where Fujiwara no Teika’s Ogura Sanso villa was located in the Heian period, a place associated
with the Hyakunin Isshu poetry anthology. Located on the hillside of Mt. Ogura, you can enjoy the 12m high Tahoto Pagoda
(Important Cultural Property) and the spectacular view created
by about 200 maple trees. Tahoto Pagoda From the observation deck,
you can overlook the city of Kyoto! I could see Kyoto Tower! There was a resident cat! We are heading to the inn
where we will stay tonight! Saga-Arashiyama ▷ Kameoka 🚃
10 minutes, ¥200 About 20 minutes from Kameoka Station. Located close to Saga-Arashiyama, a secluded hot spring ryokan (inn) nestled
in the mountains of Kameoka. Rich in minerals and helps balance hormones. They pride themselves on the soft quality
of their hot spring water! Today’s room. There’s also a massage chair! Grateful they provide water! 🙏 Heading to the private open-air bath! It has the atmosphere of a hidden hot spring ♪ A spacious open-air bath. The changing room also has character! There is also a shower! We’ve arrived at the private open-air bath! We walked 2 minutes from the main building! It’s quite far. But it’s worth the walk. It’s located in a secluded spot! The changing room too. It’s a building with a quaint atmosphere. The open-air bath is surrounded by rocks, and on the other side is the mountain. It feels like it was discovered by digging. It’s that kind of hot spring! They say no water is added here. It’s 100% pure source water! The water is clear. It doesn’t smell much like sulfur, but it feels smooth and thick. It feels good on the skin. This is paradise. This is truly paradise. The bath in the main public bath area
was also really good. There was even a waterfall shower (Utaseyu), so I could even do some
ascetic training! Lol This one is for leisurely relaxing. It’s a hot spring you can enjoy. There is also a resting space! Dinner will be served in the room!

(steamed soup in a teapot)! Matsutake mushroom, Hamo (conger eel), Tanba Jidori chicken meatballs,
Mitsuba (Japanese parsley). Ah, delicious! Even though it has so many
delicious ingredients, the flavors aren’t overpowering. They don’t clash? It’s kind of strange. It becomes mellow. Kyo-gamo (Kyoto Duck) Small Hot Pot
Kameoka vegetables, Tofu, Ponzu sauce. Mmm! Is it good? It’s incredibly moist! Delicious! It doesn’t melt in your mouth. It properly tastes like muscle meat. But it’s moist! It’s so good! Let’s have some vegetables too. Are these Kyo-yasai (Kyoto vegetables)? They are Kameoka vegetables. Delicious! You only say “delicious”! Lol I can’t say anything else
because it’s delicious. Please show me how it’s done! Me? You want me to set an example? Yes, please. Yum! Right! It’s moist. It’s good. Yeah. That’s it! Issho yanaika! (It’s the same thing!) Issho yanaika! The Kansai dialect came out. The Kansai dialect came out. Issho yanaika! (Fake Kansai dialect came out 😉 Lol) Salt-grilled Waka-ayu (Young Sweetfish),
Tade-zu (Water Pepper Vinegar). It’s salt-grilled Ayu. Isn’t this container amazing too? They probably just caught it. They caught it while it was swimming! Lol Wow, look! Looks delicious! I have a fun fact about Ayu (sweetfish). What is it? Ayu eat moss! Eh! Really! Iwana (Char) eat insects in the river. Is that so! So, carnivorous and herbivorous? I don’t know… Is it called carnivorous? I’m not sure, but that’s what I heard! I learned it from a comment the other day! Thank you everyone as always! 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ It’s fluffy and delicious! They said to dip it in some sauce. “Tade-zu” (Water Pepper Vinegar). It’s already salted, but we add vinegar too? It feels kind of strange. Made by grinding the leaves of Tade (water pepper),
a plant in the knotweed family, and mixing it with vinegar. It’s refreshing! Yes! Delicious! Because it’s a small young Ayu, there are no bitter parts. The internal organs are usually
a bit bitter, right? But this isn’t bitter at all. You can eat the whole thing. Delicious! The head was a little bitter, but it was soft
down to the bone and delicious ♪ They even provided Inari sushi
for a midnight snack! The type of person who can’t resist
reading the books in the room. Breakfast also has a wide variety ♪ Homemade Hoba Miso
(Miso grilled on a magnolia leaf). It was “Matsutake Okowa”
(Sticky rice with Matsutake mushrooms)! We were able to eat leisurely
in a semi-private room! It was a wonderful inn that

“Hozugawa River Boat Ride”! A traditional river boat ride down
the Hozugawa River, which flows from Kameoka to Arashiyama,
taking about 2 hours. It is a historic waterway used for water transport
since the Heian period. You can enjoy the beautiful gorge in all four seasons,
the thrill of the rapids, and the boatmen’s excellent skills
and unique commentary. This doesn’t have a motor, right? Boatman) That’s right!
We do it all by hand rowing! Boatman) Among river boat rides
powered by humans, Boatman) this one has the longest distance and
the largest elevation difference in Japan. Boatman) Total length 16km. Boatman) The elevation difference
to Arashiyama is about 55m. Boatman) Arashiyama, where we are
heading now, is on the left side. Boatman) That mountain is called Mt. Atago. Boatman) We will see that mountain sometimes
in front and sometimes behind us Boatman) as we head to Arashiyama! Three boatmen operate the boat! It’s a duck! Whoa! Amazing! Boatman) This boundary is the “Koayu no Taki” (Small Sweetfish Falls).
It has a drop of 2 meters. A 2-meter drop is crazy, isn’t it? What amazing technique! The view behind us is also quite good 👍 The river current is strong and it’s fun! It’s the Torokko train (Sagano Scenic Railway)! The river is narrow, so the boatmen’s skills shine! There are many highlights, it’s fun! There certainly are many! it’s take-out only. Maybe because it was a weekday. We only waited about 10 minutes. Yum! Is the milk really delicious? The coffee is delicious too. It’s not bitter at all. Maybe because it has milk in it. Wow! Delicious! It’s refreshing. Is it a Cafe Latte? Kyoto Latte! It’s really delicious. The coffee itself is amazing! It goes perfectly with the milk! It’s the best I’ve ever had. It’s different! It’s worth the line. Really!? It’s surprisingly delicious coffee! Combined with this view,
it tastes even better! Delicious. Recommended! It’s nice because it’s close. It’s a 2-minute walk from Togetsukyo Bridge! 🙆‍♀️ Kyoto was fun. I’m glad we went to the
Kameoka retreat (Okuzashiki). The retreat of Kyoto. Right, right! I didn’t know there was a place like that. The places we went yesterday
weren’t crowded either, so that was nice! It was crowded in front of the station though. I want to come again during
