Kaki Ice (Kaki-gōri)
The “Kaki Ice” made with locally grown Fuyu persimmons from Nara Prefecture is especially popular. It features a rich, sweet persimmon syrup. The outer layer is made from sun-dried persimmon syrup with a soft, pulpy texture, while the inner layer has a refreshing honey yuzu-lemon syrup, giving it a sweet and tangy balance.
This is typically offered as a seasonal summer item (July to September). In 2024, it was available from July 1 to September 30.

They also offer a wide range of takeout options, from gift-ready wooden box sets to smaller portions that are ideal as souvenirs.

About Hōryū-ji Temple
Hōryū-ji presents a majestic and solemn atmosphere. It is one of Japan’s most iconic temples, representing the oldest surviving wooden buildings in the world, and is a registered World Heritage Site.
Overview and History
Founded in 607 AD by Prince Shōtoku and Empress Suiko, Hōryū-ji has a history spanning over 1,400 years, making it one of the oldest and most historically significant temples in Japan.
The temple consists of two main areas:
The Western Precinct (Sai-in Garan): Includes the Five-Story Pagoda, Main Hall (Kondō), and Central Gate (Chūmon).
The Eastern Precinct (Tō-in Garan): Features the Yumedono (Hall of Dreams).
The complex is home to the oldest wooden buildings in existence and was recognized in 1993 as Japan’s first UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
