郡上八幡 夏旅🏮長良川鉄道で行く清流と踊りと共に生きる城下町｜備前屋 | 岐阜
Hello everyone! I’m Naru! We’ve arrived in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture! Gifu Prefecture consists of the “Gifu Area,” “Seino Area,” “Chuno Area,” “Tono Area,” and “Hida Area.” It is composed of these five areas. Each area has its own characteristics. With excellent access to Nagoya, the “Gifu Area” developed around Gifu Station,
a key transportation hub. The “Gifu Area.” Gifu Castle, the symbol of Gifu, is also located in this area. Famous for the decisive Battle of Sekigahara, is the “Seino Area,” where Sekigahara is located. Represented by the clear Nagara River, and known as a region rich in nature, is the “Chuno Area.” Where the stone-paved slopes of the Nakasendo Trail continue, a post town with a retro atmosphere, Magome-juku, is in the “Tono Area.” Surrounded by the mountains of the Northern Alps, including the World Heritage Site “Shirakawa-go,” Gero Onsen (one of Japan’s top three hot springs), Hida Takayama, etc. Where rich nature and traditional culture coexist, is the “Hida Area.” In the Chuno Area, which we are visiting this time, there is a railway connecting JR Mino-Ota Station and Hokuno Station. It’s the Nagaragawa Railway. One of the three clearest streams in Japan, it’s a 72.1km railway running along the Nagara River! From the train windows, spectacular seasonal views can be enjoyed. Along the line is Mino’s “Udatsu Wall Townscape.” Retaining the atmosphere of the Edo period, there are plenty of sightseeing spots! Among them, Gujo Hachiman is a castle town boasting over 400 years of history as the “Town of Water.” Waterways run throughout the town. You can still experience the lifestyle and culture of people living with water, and the scenery of abundant water! The summer tradition, “Gujo Odori” (Gujo Dance Festival), is held over 32 nights from July to September! The “Tetsuya Odori” (All-Night Dancing) during the four days of Obon in August, is Japan’s longest Bon Odori festival, where people dance until dawn! Enveloped in morning mist, Gifu’s castle in the sky, “Gujo Hachiman Castle,” offers a fantastical landscape unique to a mountain castle, and has been gaining attention in recent years! About access! Nagoya, where the Shinkansen (bullet train) stops, is the starting point. Nagoya Station → Mino-Ota Station: Approx. 40 minutes Mino-Ota Station → Gujo Hachiman Station: Approx. 80 minutes Nagoya → Gujo Hachiman Jokamachi Plaza: Highway Bus, Approx. 1 hour 30 minutes Today, we’ve come to Gifu Prefecture! We made it! Gifu! It’s super hot, isn’t it? We should be used to it by now! It really feels like summer! We’re going to the Udatsu Wall Townscape area to do a bit of sightseeing. Minoshi Station → Udatsu Wall Townscape
🚶♀️➡️Approx. 15 min walk We’ve arrived at the Udatsu Wall Townscape! It feels like an old townscape still remains here. There are walls between the houses, and the structure with a roof on top of that wall is called “Udatsu”! The part that sticks out? Yeah, I think so. The part that goes up like this. The protruding part, right? And the little piece right on top of that! This is for fire prevention, right? They built it to stop fire from spreading! I researched it, you know. Because people think I don’t know anything! (Laughs) That’s not true. I did a little preparation. Building these Udatsu, cost a lot of money back then. Is that so? The saying “Udatsu ga agaranai” (unable to raise Udatsu = unsuccessful)
comes from not being able to afford building one. Piping hot and delicious! The cold Oroshi Udon (Udon with grated radish) was also delicious♪ Minoshi Station → Gujo Hachiman Station
🚃Approx. 46 min ¥960 The Nagara River is beautiful! We arrived at Gujo Hachiman! We’re here! The train ride was fun♪ Nice! It was really beautiful! Though someone was sleeping a lot! (Laughs) Someone was definitely fast asleep. I was awake a little! (Laughs) You just fall asleep when traveling, don’t you? (Laughs) But the scenery was beautiful. It was beautiful. This is our final destination! We came to Gujo Hachiman! We’ll explore the town and stay overnight! Let’s enjoy walking around the town♪ There’s a bus, so let’s take it and drop off our luggage at the hotel! Mame Bus The fare is a flat rate of ¥100. We dropped off our luggage, so let’s go see the river. Yeah, I want to see it! It looked incredibly beautiful! The river was so beautiful! Let’s go! So beautiful! Wow, the water is so clear! This really feels like summer! It’s so clear that you can see the stones at the bottom! It’s cold! It feels so good! You can swim. Go ahead and swim. The current is surprisingly strong. There are people swimming. There are people fishing too! I saw fish! This feels great! I want to jump in! Huh? I want to jump in! Go ahead and jump! (Laughs) It really feels like the Town of Water! It is said that local children jump off from here! The emerald green is beautiful! A facility renovated from the former town hall of Gujo Hachiman. Found what we were looking for! It says it takes 20 minutes on foot to Gujo Hachiman Castle. That’s far! I need to buy another bottle of cider (soda) or I won’t make it. Need a cider refill. What should we do? Should we just look at it from here? (Laughs) No way! It wasn’t on top of that mountain! 🙇♀️ Is it different? Castles are usually in high places! Well… It’s tough in this heat! Well, if we drink cider, we’ll be fine. Drink cider and get some energy. Recharging energy. Heading for Gujo Hachiman Castle! We’re getting closer! Just keep climbing… We have arrived at Gujo Hachiman Castle. We finally made it! It was quite tough, as expected. Because it’s hot. That was the hard part. Gujo Hachiman Castle is, Japan’s oldest wooden reconstructed castle keep
(Rebuilt in Showa 8 [1933]). It was dismantled once, and then rebuilt during the Showa era. In the currency of the time, it cost about 200 million yen, I think. They rebuilt it! You sound like an expert now. I studied! (Laughs) The local people said it was sad not having a castle. So 60 years after it was dismantled, it was reconstructed. That’s the story of this castle. It’s entirely made of wood. That’s amazing! That’s why it’s creaking a bit. It is. And it’s on top of a mountain, isn’t it? The view must be good too. I bet. Let’s go become part of this creaking too! (Laughs) It creaks with every step, making me worried (Laughs). You can see the townscape and the Yoshida River! The statue looks so small from here! Recovering energy by eating soft serve ice cream! Established in the Meiji era, built on the site of an Edo period domain school. Gujo Hachiman’s oldest existing long-established Ryokan (Japanese Inn). A historic Japanese garden and the atmosphere of a traditional townhouse (Machiya). The heartwarming hospitality (Omotenashi) is its charm. It’s a detached room, so it has a private bath and toilet! For other rooms, you can use the private family bath! Meals are served in a private room! The Hida beef looks delicious! It was tender and delicious! They said this Ayu (sweetfish) was caught in the Nagara River! It looks like it has some nice fat on it again. It’s plump! Oh! Wow, again, it’s like… It’s so moist! Plump and juicy? It’s not dry at all! It’s really different from any I’ve had before! Is it good? It’s really juicy! Try it! Okay! What’s the deliciousness level? What’s that? The deliciousness level! On a scale of 1 to 10. I can’t say that. Why not! Isn’t it a 10!? I don’t really rate people’s cooking. I don’t assign scores… It feels like they just caught it an hour ago. It tastes freshly caught! It’s delicious! I mean, the river was so clean. Of course they catch delicious Ayu! Definitely. If the river is clean, is the fish delicious? Huh! Am I wrong? I don’t know. Is the fish in Kamikochi delicious? The river is clean in Kamikochi too! Is it delicious in Kamikochi too? The Iwana (char) is delicious there! I see… I think that’s probably it… The food they eat is good! It really is plump. Delicious! The seasoning is perfect too! Tempura made with new rice! Let’s go to the Gujo Odori! It’s beautiful! Amazing! I didn’t expect it to be lit up! These lights on the river weren’t here during the day! They placed each one and lit the fire! So beautiful. About 400 years ago, in the early Edo period, the lord of Gujo Hachiman Castle, Endo Yoshitaka, is said to have started it to improve relations among the townspeople. It’s a traditional Bon Odori dance. The appeal is that anyone can participate. People of all ages form a single circle and enjoy 10 types of dances. Trying the Gujo Odori dance “Kawasaki”! The song is addictive and makes you want to dance again and again♪ This place is called “Sogi Sui” (Sogi Spring Water). It’s the very first designated site among the 100 famous waters of Japan. The water is clean. Amazing. I wonder if they do washing here? It’s divided, isn’t it? Into four sections! It seems each section has a specific purpose!
(e.g., Top: Drinking water, 2nd: Rinsing rice, 3rd: Washing vegetables, Bottom: Laundry) I’ve never seen such a big carp! Wow! It’s like a bullet. It’s shaped like a missile! It’s so plump and fat! I wonder if it eats good stuff! It won’t eat the food at all! The big one. The small fish eat it, but… The Ayu? Iwana (char)? They eat it… Maybe the Ayu are full? The Ayu are biting like crazy! Ah! Here it comes, here it comes. This one came! The carp won’t eat at all 😂 About 80,000 natural stones from the Nagara River and Yoshida River are paved here! We found a spot where you can drink natural water! It was cold and delicious♪ There are many shrines and temples in the town. You can hear the sound of water everywhere in the town. The garden is incredibly beautiful. So beautiful. It’s very picturesque! It’s framed (by the window), and this tatami room is so beautiful! There’s a waterfall flowing, and a pond, and carp too. The moss is nice too. And the maple trees are great! The autumn colors must be amazing! I’m sure the autumn colors are beautiful too. It feels very elegant (Miyabi). Boasting a 60% share nationwide, Gujo Hachiman is the birthplace of food samples (Shokuhin Sampuru). In a 150-year-old traditional house, you can see, make, and buy food samples. You can enjoy them to the fullest! We bought some straps! This is amazing! It looks so real! There were lots of cute ones! I got milk and bread, and Masa got Takoyaki (octopus balls)! The torn part is also realistic! So real! I might mistake it for real food! I’m going to put it on my bag! Shokunin-machi (Craftsmen’s Town), Kajiya-machi (Blacksmiths’ Town). Found something in Yanagi-machi! There were small fish! It’s a charming street! The walls there, are made like that for fire prevention, right? It’s the same as the Udatsu town! The Udatsu aren’t raised here, but the walls are. There were “Sodekabe” (wing walls) between the houses! Water is flowing in front of the houses. If there’s a fire, they can quickly use the water. There are buckets too, and there were boards (Seki-ita) to block the water. They use these boards to dam the water, chilling vegetables
or rinsing laundry in the waterway. If you chill vegetables, or beer, it would be absolutely great. Looks delicious! Smells good! It’s rare to grill it on this leaf! Is it a Gifu thing? I think so! Hoba Miso (Magnolia Leaf Miso)
A dish where homemade koji miso is grilled on a Hoba (magnolia) leaf.
In the Hida region, where forestry thrived, people working in the mountains
started grilling miso using Hoba leaves as plates. Smells good. I can’t wait to eat! Looks delicious. There’s so much Hida beef! Looks amazing! So good! This miso is incredibly delicious! Is it Gifu miso? Delicious! Because it’s grilled on this leaf, maybe the aroma of the leaf comes out? It tastes different from when it’s grilled on a regular iron plate! Delicious! Thank you for the meal! 🙏 (Gochisousama deshita) This is a cafe located beside Sogi Sui spring. They are doing the Gujo Odori! It has beautiful layers, it’s a shame to break it! いい季節に郡上八幡へ行きましたね。郡上をどりに参加できた事は、いい思い出になりますね。
昔ながらの街並みがあって、落ち着ける雰囲気が似合っていますよ。行ってみたいなあ。

僕は、春のアマゴ釣りに何度か郡上へ行きますが、夏に町を散策は、したことないので、ゆっくり時間のある時にぶらぶらしてみたいと思います

僕は、鮎釣りに東白川村の白川へ遠征で行くことが多いので、必ず白川茶屋さんの朴葉すしを食べます👍️

岩魚は、虫を食べるのに対し、アユはコケを食べる魚なんで、天然のアユは、川ごとに味が違うんですよー🐟縄張り意識が強いので、友釣りって言ってヨソもののアユを
泳がせケンカさせて釣るので、難しいと

郡上八幡に行ったんですね。
その先の美濃白鳥と合わせて福井方面への拠点として何度か立ち寄ったことがあります。
郡上八幡城は車で上りましたが結構な坂だった気がします。
なるさん達は歩いて上ったようで、さすが山登り経験豊富なお二人、さらっと上ってましたね。
旅の初っ端から白いシャツにカレーうどんの汁が跳ねないか心配でしたが大丈夫でしたか？笑
飛騨牛も超美味しそうでした！（2回も食べてうらやましいです笑）
あ、あと、まささんがうだつの予習してきたっていうのが笑えました！

郡上八幡は、今年の２月に白川郷の雪の、ライトアップツアーの行きがけに１時間だけ立ち寄れた思い出の場所です。雪の郡上八幡も、それはすてきでしたよ😊宗祇水の所に行くには、凍った雪の上を恐る恐る歩いていくスリル満点でした。もっともっとゆっくり見たかったので、雪のない時にまた訪れてみたくなりました。
ただ、まさかの膝の手術をすることになり、当分坂道や階段のある旅行は厳しくなりました。若かった時には、なるさんみたいに、お城の天守閣にも登っていたのに😢
来年の復活を目指します。
それまでは、なるさんの動画に、自分を重ねて楽しみますので、よろしくね❤

なるまささん、郡上八幡へようこそ!🙇。郡上八幡は自分が働いている場所で、なるまさトラベルで取り上げて頂き、本当にありがとうございます!🙏🙇。また、日本三大盆踊りの一つの郡上おどり「かわさき」を踊って頂き、とても嬉しかったです😭。なるさんの踊りは、初めてと思えない程様になっていました!😉👍。郡上は本当に水が綺麗で、鮎は香魚と言って、綺麗な川にしか生息しませんが、郡上鮎は、清流めぐり利き鮎会でグランプリ（日本一）を受賞しています!（特に和良鮎は何と４回も）。そして岐阜県名物「朴葉味噌」と日本一に輝いた事がある飛騨牛を合体させた新橋亭の「飛騨牛朴葉味噌定食」を食べたなるさんの驚きの美味しさスマイルには、こちらが感激しました!😭。飛騨牛は良質な脂で柔らかく、とてもジューシーでしょう!😋。朴葉寿司や朴葉味噌も美味しいので是非お召し上がれっ!。宗祇庵パフェは、もはや芸術の域にまで達していますよね!😍。

郡上八幡は、乗鞍に行った帰りに、必ず高山から、せせらぎ街道を走って立ち寄る街です。いつも車なので、一度長良川鉄道で行ってみたいです。初めて郡上八幡に行った時は、駐車場のあるお食事処を探しましたが、難しかったです。😅ここは歩いて廻る街ですね。
吉田川は本当に良い流れですね。 サイダー、美味しそうに飲みますね。
懐かしいなぁ～🎶若い時は、良く行ったし、ボードなんかの帰り、お風呂入りに寄ったりと沢山、利用しました✨️
屋根、都会には無い、防災の意味も含んだ独特な作りですよね🎶

カレーうどんの時は、エプロンは付けなかったんですか❓白い服なのに凄い‼️👏

めっちゃ暑い時に暑い郡上行かれたんですね。暑い街で熱いカレーうどんとは！白いお洋服にカレーが飛び散らないか💦こっちは冷や汗でました😅
八幡城へ駆け上がる姿はさすが山ガールだ！って思いましたよ。最近は山旅がないですが全く健脚衰えてない感じでした🎉
朴葉味噌は私も大好きでなるさんもめっちゃ美味しそうだったので今日こそは久々の美味しいガッツポーズ👍でるか⁉︎と期待しましたが出なかったですね😅
郡上踊り楽しそうで良かったです。

今回 一番驚いたのは踊りを見に行こうと宿を出た正面の店舗の看板に。五年前まで長年勤めた会社のロゴ。しかも旧商品ロゴで「コ◯カカラー」とあるじゃないですか😮 懐かしく見てしまいました。次回も楽しみです😊

郡上八幡で最初に思い浮かぶのは、やはり川に飛び込む子供達の歓声です。
名水と美しい河川が生み出す生命と生き物達。それが郡上八幡の子供達とイメージが重なります。
ここは少子化問題があるのかなぁ、とさえ思ってしまいますよ。
伝統と風格のある素敵な旅館。
城下町の雰囲気が、落ち着きと心地良さを醸し出して癒されたのではないでしょうか。
あ、自分は鮎を頭からガブリと食べますよ（笑）。苦味が美味い!
