🇯🇵 蒲沢 (廃村) 福井県池田町 Gamasawa, Abandoned Village in Ikeda Fukui | June 2025 [4K]
This video captures a cycling and walking visit to Gamasawa, an abandoned mountain village deeper beyond Kagokake in Ikeda, Fukui Prefecture, filmed in June 2025. The footage begins at Ōmoto (大本), on the upper Asuwa River / Heko River (足羽川 / 部子川) at the confluence where the Hieda River (稗田川) and the Kagokake River (篭掛川) join. From that confluence, I follow the Kagokake River upstream.
In 2021, a former resident of Kagokake mentioned to me that another settlement existed upriver, above Kagokake (籠掛). Motivated by this insight, I went up the steep path toward Gamasawa (蒲沢). Along the way, I passed clear signs of nature’s return—forests, streams, and wildlife. A deer even lingered at the village, seemingly unaware of my presence (25:37).
The only notable human-made marker found was a stone monument marked 朝輝城趾 (Choki Castle? Ruins). Apart from that, there were few remaining structures or foundations, though a faint trail continued deeper (29:31)—suggesting this route might have once connected through Hekosan (部子山) or villages like Mizuumi (水海).
While the village itself is nearly lost, the journey evokes reflection on places people once lived and traveled between. This footage offers a quiet glimpse into Japan’s forgotten mountain history.
