金魚と町家のまち!郡山城跡と柳町商店街を巡ってみた。:『奈良:大和郡山』

July 21, 2025 Hello everyone! Today, I’m in Yamatokoriyama, Nara Prefecture. The nearest station is Kintetsu Koriyama Station. It’s about a 15-minute train ride from Kintetsu Nara Station. Yamatokoriyama City, located in northern Nara Prefecture, is a charming city brimming with history and charm, home to a long-established castle town and a vibrant goldfish culture . Yanagimachi Shopping Street (also known as “Goldfish Street” ) is a historic shopping street stretching approximately 600 meters from Yanagimachi 1-chome to 4-chome in the Yanagi district , formerly a castle town near Koriyama Castle . Its charm lies in its tranquil streets, reminiscent of the Showa era. A locally-led revitalization project has transformed it into a “shopping street where goldfish swim,” featuring a variety of goldfish tanks. Tabi Tabi is a traditional townhouse cafe renovated from a nearly 100-year-old traditional Japanese house. The restaurant’s charm lies in its gentle South Indian-style meal dishes, picture books, and playful, relaxing atmosphere. (5 types of curry) Full Meal Set: ¥1,600. This South Indian-style meal is essentially a mix of curries and side dishes. It had a mild, mild flavor. Honke Kikuya is a Japanese confectionery shop with over 400 years of tradition. Their signature product is the “Oshiro-no-Kuchi Mochi,” invented by the founder for a tea ceremony hosted by Toyotomi Hidenaga to entertain his brother, Hideyoshi . This simple Japanese confection consists of bite-sized kinako mochi (roasted soybean flour) filled with sweet bean paste. Set of 3 Oshiro-no- Kuchi Mochi (with tea): ¥500. The fragrant kinako (roasted soybean flour) and the sweetness of the soft mochi and sweet bean paste were perfectly balanced. Let’s continue our exploration. Hakomotokan Konya is a cultural experience facility in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture, themed around indigo dyeing. The city has preserved and renovated this townhouse, a former indigo dyeing merchant’s residence dating back to the Edo period, into a tourist attraction. Admission is free, and the museum offers a wealth of attractions, centered around indigo and goldfish. There are also shops within the museum. “Kochikuya” is a souvenir shop selling approximately 250 types of goldfish goods. At the attached “Goldfish Scooping Dojo,” visitors can try their hand at goldfish scooping year-round. “K COFFEE” is a coffee shop renovated from a closed gas station. The coffee is authentic, roasted in-house. It’s a place of relaxation for locals and a popular tourist spot. Iced coffee: ¥600. “Machiya Monogatarikan” is a three-story wooden building built in the Taisho period, a former red-light district, and is now open to the public free of charge. As a cultural asset with a historical background as a red-light district, it is a valuable place that conveys the lifestyle and architectural beauty of the upper-class entertainment district of the time. Remaining furniture from the boarding house era and stickers from the Showa era offer a realistic feel of the era. Finally, we head to the “Koriyama Castle Ruins.” This historic castle site, located in the center of Yamatokoriyama City, was an important fortress that flourished from the Sengoku period to the Edo period. It has now been developed into a castle park, a tourist spot where you can enjoy the sights and seasonal scenery. Yanagisawa Shrine , located on the site of the Koriyama Castle main keep, is dedicated to Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who laid the foundation for the Yanagisawa clan, feudal lords of the Edo period. Koriyama Castle Keep Base Upside-down Jizo statues were used when the castle was expanded due to a lack of stone. Yanagisawa Bunko exhibits materials related to the Yanagisawa clan. *Admission fee: ¥300 (general). Former Nara Prefectural Library *Open on weekends and holidays only . Thank you for watching this far. Finally, I’d like to share something I’d like to share with you. *I’ve written the same thing in the description. I hope this video will be helpful for your travels. I’ll continue to introduce these sites regularly, so please subscribe to my channel. I hope you’ll be looking forward to my next video.
