[沖縄・宮古島旅行3泊4日VLOG] ☔️全日、雨予報でどれだけ楽しめる?どれぐらい晴れた?

Hello! I’m heading to Miyakojima for 3 nights and 4 days. These 4 days are the exact same day that Typhoon No. 4 hit… Since it’s an award ticket, I could have changed my ticket, but other dates would have meant waiting until after October, so I decided to take the plunge and go. Well, I left Tokyo with a faint hope that there would be some sunny weather…lol. I looked up places that would be fun even in the rain , asked Miyakojima locals about good restaurants, and thought up options to be flexible in dealing with Miyakojima’s changeable weather. I think this video will be helpful for everyone’s Miyakojima trip. When I booked, there were no window seats available, but due to the typhoon’s direct hit, I was able to change to a window seat. Soon, I was over Miyakojima. Oh… my faint hope of some sunny weather was dashed. I had no hope of sunny weather at all. The weather looked unlikely, so we took a taxi from the airport taxi stand to the hotel where we would be staying for the night. The hotel is close to Miyako Airport and we arrived after about a 5-minute drive. The hotel was just completed in 2021 and is beautiful. There are no convenience stores nearby, but there is a shop on the first floor. We bought at least three bottles of mango juice as a souvenir every time we go to Okinawa. We stayed in a “Standard Double Room”. It was compact, but it had a refrigerator (no water), a safe, and a dresser. As the hotel is still new, the bathroom was also very clean. The bathroom was a unit bath . We had already eaten seafood, drank beer, eaten island oden, and had some delicious food, so we went to bed early. It was a 10-minute drive from the hotel to the place I had wanted to visit first when I arrived in Miyakojima . Looking back, maybe it was because of this place that this trip to Miyakojima turned out to be such a good one? I’m heading to Harimizu Utaki in Hirara. Miyakojima has sacred sites called “Utaki” that are the focus of faith for the island’s residents. As I travel to various places, I ‘ve come to feel that I want to visit each place and respect the culture, beliefs, and customs of each place . “I heard that only women are allowed to enter Harimizu Utaki,” I said . “I heard men can enter here (Makimizu-Utaki)!” Most utaki are generally off-limits, but Makimizu-Utaki is the only one on Miyakojima that you can enter, making it a precious place. First, I decided to go and greet the local gods, praying for a safe journey. There was a cat under the eaves of the utaki. My parents , who are Miyakojima experts, highly recommended a seafood izakaya after this, but I still had 20 minutes until my reservation, so I headed to Miyako Shrine, which is near Makimizu-Utaki. Passing under a large banyan tree, I came across a large torii gate and a beautiful white staircase made of Ryukyu limestone. Miyakojima is a group of islands formed by the uplift of coral reefs, and the roads Miyako Shrine, the southernmost shrine in Japan , is a delight to visit. The roads are paved with coral, and the shrine’s approach and stairs are made of Ryukyu limestone, a rock formed by the accumulation of coral reefs and seashells. Locals routinely visit the shrine, and it seems to be cherished. I washed my hands and rinsed my mouth with the water from the temizuya (purification fountain). The Ryukyu red-tiled roof was very impressive, and there was a gentle, tropical atmosphere. I prayed for a safe journey and clear skies . From the top of the shrine’s stairs, I could see the Miyakojima cityscape. I could see the Irabu Bridge connecting Miyakojima and Irabujima! It would look even more beautiful on a clear day. Nakayama, an izakaya, is located a two-minute walk from Miyako Shrine. My parents said, “You absolutely have to go to Nakayama,” so we went there first! Even though it was 5pm on a weekday, it seemed like you couldn’t get in without a reservation. Even when the ocean was obscured by rain or clouds, the Orion beer was still delicious. The prices were very reasonable, with Orion beer at 290 yen during happy hour, and the sea grapes here at 500 yen! My personal recommendation is the deep-fried gurkun (a fish of the Okinawan fusilier family) – it was super fluffy and crispy all the way to the head! The sashimi platter is also recommended! It was an assortment of amberjack, bonito, tuna, octopus, and squid. Perhaps because it’s close to the port, the fish was fresh, firm, and delicious…♡ Other than that, the rafute and bitter melon chanpuru and sashimi were delicious, so I ended up ordering some sushi to finish off the meal! While expensive and delicious restaurants are nice, being recommended a place that’s affordable, delicious, and comfortable can make you feel like a true connoisseur. A one-minute walk from Nakayama toward the port, this Western-style pastry shop has been a Miyakojima favorite for over 40 years and is famous for its banana cake. Apparently, they also serve fresh banana cake! It’s also a great dessert after a meal (though we’re heading to our second stop soon) . For our second stop, we went here for some island oden. 🍢 We ordered a tomato sour and Sanpin High, an assortment of island oden, and sea cucumber and mozuku seaweed. Island oden is a Miyakojima specialty that’s known for including pig’s trotters. Since my parents’ household regularly served pig’s trotters, I enjoyed it without any reservations! It was a great second stop. Since coming to Miyakojima, I’ve been so happy to be able to eat so much seaweed. When we stepped outside, the wind and rain started to pick up…! I’ve planned to enjoy tomorrow even if it rains, but I hope it’s sunny! Today, I rented a car from Times Car Share and toured around the island to see places that I think I can enjoy even in the rain. In the evening, I headed to the Miyakojima Tokyu Hotel & Resorts at Yonaha Maehama Beach, the most beautiful beach in the Orient. The Times Car Share is located across the street from Hotel Torifito. Is the weather even worse than yesterday? lol I decided to rent the car for three days! For breakfast, I wanted something typical of Miyakojima, so I went to a local pork hot dog shop. They serve locally sourced hot dogs made with Miyakojima ingredients, and you can only get that here . You can eat them while swaying in a hammock! I ordered the standard pork sausage dog and the pork sausage and vegetable dog. The pork sausage was like meat!!! It was so delicious! My husband was wrapped up in it. I’m now heading to the Shimajiri Mangrove Forest, about 20 minutes from the center of Miyakojima. Watching the rain cloud radar, I thought it might be pouring by the time I got there…lol, but then I saw some sunshine! “It’s really mangroves!” Mangroves are the collective name for plants that grow in areas where freshwater and seawater mix in tropical and subtropical regions . They form a unique ecosystem and are a breeding ground for many living creatures, so they are also called “forests of the sea” and “cradles of life.” Mangroves grow in places where there are rivers that flow into the sea, but Miyako Island does not have any rivers that flow into the sea. 😳 A rare mangrove has developed where an underground water vein springs out near the coast. Mangroves that grow in areas without rivers are very rare , and are an important place in vegetation geography, and have been designated as a natural monument. *If you don’t like crabs or gobies, please skip 10 seconds. If you squint and look closely, you’ll see many different creatures. The more you look, the more you discover, which is quite interesting. I spotted a white heron (probably) in the distance. Despite the well-maintained walking trails and restrooms, it’s a hidden gem with few people around, so I was soothed by the chirping of the birds and the small creatures. While there’s still some sunshine, I’ll head across the Ikema Ohashi Bridge. It’s the best weather I’ve had since coming to Miyakojima (lol). Once across the bridge, there seems to be a small observation deck and rest area, so I’ll head there. From the second floor and rooftop of a shop called “Umikurai,” you can get a panoramic view of the Ikema Ohashi Bridge and the ocean. This is the view from the second floor. From the rooftop, the Ikema Ohashi Bridge looks even closer, and it was beautiful! It would be even more beautiful if it was a clear day. It looked like you could go down to the sandy beach, so I decided to check it out. By the way, the shop on the first floor even had souvenirs and snacks. I was heading towards the beach I could see from the observation deck. It felt like a secret beach, and I was excited. It’s my second day in Miyakojima and my first time at the beach!! If you look closely, you’ll see lots of hermit crabs walking around! Miyakojima Marine Park is a 9-minute drive away and is a famous spot recommended for rainy or cloudy days when you have nothing to do. The admission fee to the park’s main facility, the Underwater Observation Facility, is 1,000 yen. “They’re full-time staff (lol) apparently they just came to work this morning.” At this underwater observation facility, you can peer into the ocean at a depth of about 4m. Through acrylic panels, you can peer into the pristine underwater world of Miyakojima. The underwater observation facility is made from precast concrete! On a windy day, it’s nice to be able to see the fish without having to swim in the sea. The porcupine fish in the reception hall are so soothing. We buy a cup of BLUESEAL ice cream (purple sweet potato). We drive for about 20 minutes and head back to the center of Miyakojima. Our destination is the Miyakojima City Future Creation Center. Along the way, we spot a banana . “I can see the blue sky now. ” “I think it’s thanks to praying at Miyako Shrine .” “That’s definitely true (lol).” Designed by Atelier Monguchi, this complex combines the functions of Miyakojima City’s library and community center. The different levels and distinctive overlapping roof are said to be inspired by the shape of table coral! By combining PC cantilever beams and steel frames, the cantilever roof is up to 6 meters high. Apparently, tourists can also rent books from this library! Filming is prohibited inside the building, so this is the limit for videos and photos.By the time we left the building, the weather had changed from cloudy to sunny ☀️ We hurried to our next hotel while the sun was still shining. We discovered a sunflower field. Starting today, we’ll be staying for two nights at the Miyakojima Tokyu Hotel & Resorts, which has the best location on Miyakojima and boasts the most beautiful beach in the Orient, Yonaha Maehama, all to itself. “Wow, it was worth praying for!!” According to our schedule, the sun cleared up at the time we most wanted it to be sunny 😭😭 We could see the hotel! As expected, when you arrive at a resort hotel, just standing at the entrance makes you excited as you check in. The sun was so bright that the sea reflected the sunlight! I stayed in the Ocean Wing Standard Twin Room. They even had pajamas. There was an outlet next to the bed. The view from the fifth-floor room was amazing, overlooking Yonaha Maehama. There was a kettle and water in the minibar, as well as a refrigerator. There were plenty of hangers and clotheslines, so I didn’t think I’d have any problems. The sink was stocked with cleansing cream, facial cleanser, lotion, and emulsion. The bathroom was cute, with all the glasses made from Ryukyu glass. The shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were from the brand OKINAWA BOTANICAL. This room had a combined bath and toilet. Apparently , Yonaha Maehama was open for swimming just as I checked in, so I quickly put on my swimsuit and headed out to play. 🚶🚶 I brought along the reef-friendly sunscreen I bought in Hawaii, the swim ring, and the air pump I brought with me! There was also an air pump available at the Tokyu Hotel Beach House! Although it was sunny, the wind was quite strong. First, we rented beach towels at the beach house (you can rent as many as the number of people). There was a food truck in front of the beach house, so we could get drinks. We headed there fully prepared to relax by the sea. Yonaha Maehama is said to be the most beautiful beach in the Orient, featuring a white sand beach that stretches for about 7km. Guests staying at the Tokyu Hotel can use parasols and beach chairs for free. The Tokyu Hotel also offers many marine activities such as canoeing and SUP, but due to the strong winds and high waves, all activities except banana boats were canceled . I’m so happy! I didn’t expect it to be such a sunny day, so I was really happy. The sand was also powdery, so it was nice to enjoy it barefoot. There were sunflower fields on the way here, but the sunflowers at Tokyu Hotel were also beautiful. Since I was there, I decided to go into the hotel pool as well. Tokyu Hotel does not have an indoor pool, only an outdoor pool (not heated). It is separated into an adult pool and a children’s pool, which is very convenient to use. My dinner reservation time was approaching, so I decided to leave. I have a reservation at the hotel restaurant for tonight’s dinner. I was in such a hurry that I turned up in my indoor slippers. I went to “Yaebishi”, where you can enjoy Okinawan and Japanese cuisine. Miyako Dinner “Kagisuma” where you can see the pond behind Tokyu Hotel. The draft beer glasses were very cute . The thing that caught my eye the most was the “boiled purslane”. It was like okra and was delicious! The Arthur’s bean paste sauce had a seashore scent and was delicious. “It’s as refreshing as the clear ocean, try some.” I had my second glass of Asahi brown sugar shochu with water . “Skaaaah! Are you recording that? How embarrassing.” Miyakojima yam shochu. “I might buy some to take home.” Motobu beef steak, Goya Chanpuru, local seafood bara chirashi sushi, and sata andagi vanilla ice cream. Of course, it was delicious, and it’s convenient to be able to eat without going out, but in terms of price, yesterday’s Nakayama and tomorrow’s shabu-shabu seemed more appealing. Tomorrow, I’m going snorkeling in the sea to the east. 🏝️ Today, I’m planning to enjoy the sea, not only at Yonaha Maehama, but also at the sea on the opposite side. And for dinner, I’ll go to an island that a friend who is an expert on Miyakojima told me about. Went to pork shabu-shabu. It was a little cloudy this morning. We went to a Japanese-Western buffet for breakfast. It was fairly empty around 9am. My husband prefers Western food and I prefer Japanese food. They had mozuku seaweed tsukemen, which I really liked. The omelette they made right in front of us was also delicious. Actually, my parents were staying at the Tokyu Hotel three days ago, and they lent me their snorkeling set. We brought our snorkeling set and headed to the eastern sea. It had been raining at Shinjo Beach, and the scenery on the way there was spectacular, but it was cloudy and a little hard to see. It might have been the sunniest day when we were filming this video (lol). Shinjo Beach is a popular snorkeling spot, and is especially known for its high chance of spotting sea turtles. There are no waves, it is shallow, and there are many coral reefs, making it perfect for snorkeling. My husband looked so good in the snorkeling set that it made me laugh. There were lots of fish!!! 、 宮城ビーチの東京都 English: One mistake we made was swimming on the right side after entering from the parking lot at Aragusuku Beach. There is a lot of coral on the right side, so it’s easy to scrape your knees on it (my husband injured himself). It’s easier to swim on the left side, and it’s apparently a good spot to see sea turtles (lol). “The rain is so beautiful!” ” It’s beautiful because there are no waves. ” “It’s like it’s raining a little.” It’s probably most beautiful on a clear, sunny day, but this was also magical. At Aragusuku Beach, there are showers and changing rooms (which were beautiful!) so we were able to return home stress-free. When excavating in Miyakojima, coral debris comes out – it seems like construction is difficult. We decided to buy something to eat at the hotel shop and eat it on the beach. The shop in the basement of the hotel had a wide selection of snacks and drinks, but it might not be enough if you want a real meal. “It’s great to go to the beach anytime.” Orion beer and Spam rice balls we bought at the shop earlier . I recently quit my job to start an architectural firm, and this was a trip to Miyakojima to relax, so it just so happened to be raining!! I used to think that way, but now, I feel very calm in front of the nature of Miyakojima. It seems that people feel “small” in front of the vastness of nature , and when they do, they feel very humble and genuinely grateful. (Apparently, this is called the Ou experience in neuroscience.) It seems to be true that the emotion of nature, which goes beyond words, makes people kinder. No matter how busy you are, it’s important to travel to experience nature. Tonight’s dinner was island pork shabu-shabu. This shabu-shabu restaurant is near Izakaya Nakayama, where we went on the first day. A friend recommended this restaurant to me, and it was a big hit. I had heard that “Even if it rains, going to Buta-sho will be a good memory (lol),” and it really was a good memory . We ordered “Okinawa Prefecture “Island Pork Shabu-Shabu Set” There was also an Agu Pork Shabu-Shabu Set and a Miyako Beef Shabu-Shabu Set. It seems that the best way to eat the loin is to boil it with white onions and eat it in bonito broth. The pork fat is soft, sweet and simply delicious. The pork belly is boiled with lettuce and served with Shikuwasa ponzu sauce. We also ordered the fillet cutlet, which has a slightly pink cross section. 😍😍 There are no words to describe this fillet cutlet. It was light and I finished it in no time. I can easily see why this island pork shabu-shabu set costs 3,300 yen per person and would recommend it to anyone. You can choose from Miyako soba, Handa noodles, and rice porridge. The Miyako soba that I had to finish off the shabu-shabu was amazing! Since it was the last night of my trip to Miyakojima, I really wanted to see the night sky , but it looked like it would be impossible. In the end, I couldn’t see the stars because of the rain, but I had a drink in my room while watching TV. On my last day, it looked like it would rain and be windy , so I decided to drive, eat some delicious food, and buy some souvenirs while I headed to the airport. The wind was quite strong. For breakfast this morning, I had a Japanese breakfast with rice cooked in a pot. It was a breakfast set + mini buffet style. “What kind of fish was this called again?” “Haras…?” “Isn’t it called something like Gingira Gin?” It was Hirasu. Arthur’s miso soup and white rice cooked in a pot were delicious. It was less crowded than yesterday’s Japanese-Western buffet, and the Japanese food was very comforting. By the time I finished breakfast, it was raining heavily. It was my last day, so I thought I’d go in the sea for a bit, but swimming is prohibited on the beach. My return flight today was at 3:55 p.m., so I changed my plans to take a short drive and buy some souvenirs before then . I was about to check out of Tokyu Hotel. 😭 It was a wonderful hotel, and I could see why it has so many repeat customers. “Cross the Kurima Bridge and head to Ryukyu Zakka Aozora.” “I hope I can come back again.” “The forecast is for sunny skies from tomorrow onwards (lol).” I’m envious of those who will be traveling to Miyakojima starting tomorrow… (lol). Just after crossing the Kurima Bridge, I went to a general store. It was a select shop that collected Okinawan pottery, Ryukyu glass, and other goods from Okinawa and Miyakojima. They had some items that you won’t find in other souvenir shops. The pieces from Issuigama, a workshop in Yomitan Village, Okinawa, were very cute. I bought this because I thought its plump shape would go well with both Japanese and Western food. Next to the store is a smoothie place (?), so I recommend stopping by on your drive. Yonaha Maehama Beach is beautiful from the Kurima Bridge. I missed the memories. “Stop by BlueTurtleFarm MangoCafe (and have a mango parfait).” “When I go to the JA Farmers Market and buy souvenirs,” my mother, who doesn’t like sweet things, recommended, “I have to try this!” I went to eat the mango parfait. The entrance to the shop is overgrown with tropical plants like a jungle, which makes you feel excited even before you enter the shop. Takeout is available, but I was hungry, so I decided to eat in. I ordered the mango parfait and grilled cheese curry I was looking forward to . The mango parfait wasn’t too sweet, and it paired perfectly with the soft serve ice cream. It’s a wonderful shop, so the parking lot was quite crowded and there was a line. I recommend coming at 11am, even on weekdays, when the shop opens . This Farmers Mart is frequented by both tourists and locals. I ate a lot of delicious Okinawan food over the past four days, so I’d like to use this experience as a reference when buying souvenirs here. I tried the mozuku seaweed at the hotel breakfast buffet, dipping it in soba broth, which was delicious, so I bought some “Fat Mozuku.” Arthur’s miso soup was delicious, so I bought some. I also bought three of my favorite Okinawan Bayleigh’s mangoes. I didn’t buy any, but I also had some purslane, which I tried at “Yaebishi.” “I heard it becomes slimy when boiled!” “Three bottles of Bailees, Arthur and Mozuku seaweed.” I went to Miyakojima for a casual visit (so nostalgic). The T-shirt from A&W, a fast food restaurant only found in Okinawa, was cute! It would make a great souvenir. Rain was forecast for the entire day on our trip to Miyakojima, but I enjoyed it more than I expected. I was stressed about setting up an architectural firm, but I think I was able to release it (lol). The weather in Miyakojima is changeable and prone to typhoons. I’m sure it’s not uncommon for it to rain even after you’ve made plans. I hope this article is helpful for anyone planning a trip to Miyakojima. Thank you for reading until the end 🌺

A VLOG of my trip to Miyakojima, Okinawa in July 2025 🌺
However, I headed to Miyakojima despite a direct hit from Typhoon No. 4 and a forecast of rain all day! (lol)

Miyakojima, Okinawa, is known for its changeable weather in the summer.

How reliable is the rain forecast? I made this VLOG to answer that question!

I’m sure there are many people out there who can’t cancel their flight and are heading to Miyakojima despite the rain forecast, or who want to go to Miyakojima but are worried about rain.

I also visited some places that are enjoyable even in the rain, so I hope you find this helpful!
I hope your trip to Okinawa and Miyakojima is a little better!
