🇯🇵 敷山神社 福井県鯖江市 Shikiyama Shrine in Sabae, Fukui [4K Binaural]
This video presents a peaceful walking tour of Shikiyama Shrine (敷山神社), often known as the Lacquerware Shrine, located in the Kawada district of Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture. The shrine dates back to 968 AD and is recognized as a Shikinaisha, with deep historical roots in the local community.
Set within a cedar forest, the path climbs stone steps framed by multiple stone torii gates. Along the way, you’ll see a smaller Shikki Shrine dedicated to lacquer artisans, reflecting Kawada’s 1,500‑year tradition of Echizen lacquerware. Though access to the lacquer shrine’s detailed ceiling paintings is restricted, the building’s presence evokes the region’s craft heritage.
The climb of around 200 stone steps leads to the main hall, where you can enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Kawada’s valleys and traditional workshops below.
