【ひとり旅】うだつの上がる町並みを眺めて歩く散策Vlog。燕や風鈴の音に癒される岐阜の古い町並みは至高。【美濃観光】
This is a town of washi paper built by merchants. Or a healing town where the sounds of swallows and wind chimes echo. This video captures the emotionally rich scenery of such a place. It’s now 7:00 AM. We’ve arrived in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. “Ogurayama Castle Ruins” To understand what kind of place Mino is, I came to the observation deck. To the south, mountains stretch out, and on the flatlands are many houses and rice fields. To the north, a large river flows through the valley, and a big bridge gives a sense of rural beauty. It seems to be a place where people live closely connected to nature. Looks like I’ll be able to enjoy a calm town walk😊 I’ve come down from the observation deck. There seems to be an old townscape ahead, so I’ll head that way. “The Udatsu Preservation District” Retro houses are lined up in a straight row😶 Lately I’ve been into driving to Gifu Prefecture, and there are charming old townscapes like this everywhere. This townscape is famous for udatsu, walls that jut out between houses, and many houses are decorated lavishly like this. In the Edo period, decorating udatsu cost a lot of money, and the phrase “raising udatsu” came to mean achieving success or wealth. That’s how “raising udatsu” became an expression. This townscape is called “Udatsu-lined Townscape,” and many udatsu still remain. The washi industry led to the rise of merchant houses here, and there must have been many wealthy merchants who could afford udatsu. The washi made in this region is called Honminoshi, known for being thin, strong, and beautifully glossy. Its production technique is even registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage😶 “Gannen-ji Temple” The temple grounds are paved with stones and greenery, and the buildings have traditional tiled roofs. Places like this are truly the most calming😌 I left the main street and started walking through the alleys. It’s still early, too soon for the town to be lively. Why are the moments when no one is around and the morning sun shines so wonderful? Since earlier, I’ve seen and heard swallows flying and chirping around me, and the breath of life warms my heart. Some eaves are decorated with flowers. I feel like I haven’t seen many flowers this year, so I’d like to visit a sunflower field this summer. I found a spot where swallows gather. There’s a Pokémon called Subame, based on a swallow, and every time I see a real swallow, I think it’s so well recreated. Subame is cool and cute, definitely one of my favorite Pokémon😌 Looking closely at the buildings, many have impressive wooden latticework, and there are many Japanese-style structures with detailed designs. Besides brown tones, there are also grayish ones, which look really stylish😌 I even saw an udatsu with a curved shape. This place might be a café. The atmosphere of these relatively small spots is just the best. Prominent udatsu and a refined second floor that complements it. This town might be the perfect place for architectural observation. The clear, light blue sky is also stunning. One charm of summer is how light scatters in the humid air, making the sky appear extra bright. That’s why the sky looks light blue. When we say “sky blue,” we mean this pale shade like today, perhaps it was named during summer by people long ago. Even in the morning, it’s quite hot without wind. Since I sweat easily, carrying a hand towel is a must. To avoid visible sweat stains, a quick-drying white T-shirt is my go-to outfit. Not being able to wear various clothes because of that is the downside of summer😇 I saw a warehouse painted in a rare greenish color😶 Next to it was a group of wind chimes producing beautiful sounds. When the wind stops, they suddenly seem 😑 expressionless. I felt like I touched the heart of the wind chimes. On the other side, wind chimes swaying as if dancing. The random movement powered by the wind soothes me not only through sound but also visually😌 Even on sunny days, clouds often appear in summer. It’s about time for sudden downpours to start, so a foldable umbrella is essential for strolling. If the sound of rain joined the wind chimes, it would be perfect. “Former Imai Family Residence” This is the oldest townhouse with udatsu in Mino City, and it also served as a village head’s home and washi wholesaler. Built in the mid-Edo period, it was expanded in early Meiji to its current form. Spacious tatami rooms, flower arrangements, hanging scrolls—all with a calm appearance. When there’s tatami, I just want to lie down—is that a Japanese instinct?😇 I’d love to live in a house like this. On the veranda was a wind chime with a slightly unusual design. Its gentle swaying in the breeze was adorable. In this garden, you can hear water sounds selected among Japan’s 100 soundscapes. “Suikinkutsu” A beautiful tone like that of a koto. The bottom of the stone is hollow, and the sound echoes inside. It was an incredibly soothing sound. Outside, the sound of wind chimes fills the air. This town truly has beautiful sounds😌 “Mino Washi Akari Art Museum” Here you can enjoy light art made with washi paper. Unlike regular illuminations, the light is soft and gentle. Maybe the uneven texture of washi gives the light a random quality. In autumn, there’s a festival where the town is wrapped in washi lights. I really liked this slightly dazed-looking character. I’d love to go to the light art festival. Leaving the old townscape, I wandered around the area. Up to now, the scenery preserved the Edo period look, but from here, it feels like the late Showa to early Heisei era. Even in places like this, wind chimes sway gently. That spinning thing often seen in the countryside—is it to scare away crows? After walking a bit, I reached an open area with a stream. The water is clear, and I feel like I could catch some river crabs. I haven’t caught river crabs in a long time… I want to do it again. “Old Meitetsu Mino Station” Built during the Taisho era, it operated until the early Heisei period. After closure, it has been preserved by volunteers. Everything looks retro and somehow nostalgic💭 There was a road like this near my parents’ house—it brings back memories. “Mino Station” If you come to Mino by train, your walk starts here. The station is small and full of retro charm—it’s an exciting start to the trip😌 Outside, small sunflowers were blooming🌻 Lemon yellow is so cute😊 “Café Pierrot” I got tired from walking, so it’s time for a break. The interior is old-fashioned and relaxing. Let’s have some breakfast. Toast generously spread with marmalade—there’s no way it’s not delicious😊 A jiggly boiled egg came with it, but I still can’t peel it well🤔 I wonder if there’s a trick to it. Now that I’ve recharged, time to resume the walk! I saw a shaved ice café nearby—want to try it next time. The area is becoming greener. Houses built in tiers along the mountain. A gently flowing green river. The countryside, where you can feel rich nature, is truly the best. Looks like a large river is flowing on the other side. “Nagaragawa River” Everything is green and incredibly clear! Lots of kids are playing in the river—it’s lively😊 Gifu Prefecture has many places full of nature, so children must grow up freely and happily. The retro wooden lighthouse is also nice. This area has many full-bodied maple trees, they must be stunning in autumn😊 I saw a bridge painted bright red. A red line dividing the green and blue world above and below. With such a beautiful structure, crossing it is the only option. Looking north, boys playing among rugged rocks. Looking south, families enjoying barbecues and river play under tents. Everyone is enjoying nature in their own way😊 I’ll save the view across the river for when I come back in autumn to see the foliage. Today I explored Mino City—it was a wonderfully emotional place. The grand udatsu reflect the prosperity of the Edo period, and the flowing green river conveys a sense of openness and vitality. I think this town has many more charms beyond what was captured in the video, so I’d love to explore it more deeply in the future. That’s it for today. Bye-bye.

Beautiful filming of Gifu Mino City! I was there last year in August. it's definitely a place that not many have visited and it is so charming!
amazing video as always!
Our cat could care less about t.v. until your videos come on. She comes from the other room and jumps on the dresser and stays through the whole video! It is endearing.❤ I loved the close ups on the wind chimes throughout this video. They are happy sounding and are working hard to show off their charm! The water portions of this video are beautiful in their own way, from the streams to the river bringing enjoyment to the people. The architecture of the udatsu is incredible!! Thank you for all your hard work. If I were your parents, I would be bursting with pride! Take good care, your friends from Destin Florida. 🌺🏖️🦀🐬🌴🏄🌞
