登別&カルルス温泉 and more -天国と地獄が出会う場所-
Hi, it’s Fuu here. We left Tokyo three days ago, headed north on the Tohoku Expressway, and landed in Hokkaido. From there, I stayed in Hakodate for two days. This time, we will continue from there. It’s been a while since we’ve been to Hokkaido in spring, so we decided to extend my trip from Hakodate to Noboribetsu. The shortest way to get from Hakodate to Onuma is to take the Hakodate Shindo, but if the sun comes out, we might be able to see a beautiful view. With this faint hope in mind, we decided to head towards Onuma on the Shirotai Skyline. As we approached the top, the surroundings gradually became ominous. We’ve reached the top. The fog is so thick that we can’t see anything. It’s not just fog, it’s in the clouds. We can’t even see the ranch that should be right in front of us. The visibility is about 10 meters. I was nervous until we got out of the fog, wondering if an animal would come out. Traveling on the highway. We got off the highway at Toyoura IC and entered National Route 37, and came to Muroran City. We’re going to cross the Hakucho Bridge, which is also a symbol of Muroran, because we’ve never seen it before. The Hakucho Bridge is 1,380 meters long. Completed in 1998, this is the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan. Muroran Bay is also known as Hakucho Bay, and it was named after this. Because it is a long way, I will send it at 3 times the speed from here. From here, it will connect to the loop bridge that leads to Shukutsu. After crossing the Hakucho Bridge, we will take a break in the roadside station, Kanasteel Mitara Muroran which is located just after crossing the Hakucho Bridge. There are a lot of souvenirs here, and many original products that we won’t find anywhere else. The Muroran clay figurine goods are cute. I wanted to buy them, but they were a bit expensive. I gave up… There are also various canned foods. They seem to be just right for snacks . There is also a cafe corner and a restaurant. Let’s take a look. There were fish in the aquarium. I don’t know much about fish, so I looked them up and found out that they are a type of striped Rockfish. I bought the very popular quail soft serve and regular milk. We also visit the Obsevation Deck located near the roadside station. From the Hakucho Bridge Observation Deck, you can see the panoramic view of Hakucho Bridge, foctory group and Muroran Bay. The view from here is especially beautiful at night. I want to see the beautiful night view fron here oneday. Next plece is here, Cape Chikiu Cape Chikiu is also called the name Cape Chikyu. The word originates from the Ainu word “Chikepu” which means cliff, and was corrupted to “Chikiu”, then changed to “Chikyu” It’s popular tourist spot with a acenic view of the Pacific Ocean from a cliff about 100meters high. Continuing on from Muroran, we arrived in Noboribetsu. Passing through the hot spring town, we first headed to Jigokudani, the place where we wanted to visit most in Noboribetsu. As expected, there are so many people at popular tourist spot. After walking a bit, I felt that about 90% of the people were tourists from overseas. There were so many different languages being spoken. It was interesting situation and I asked Koro “am I really in Japan now?” I had imagined it to be filled with more steam, but this was quite a spectacular sight in itself. There is a walking path, so let’s walk to the bottom. Jigokudani is the remains of an explosion crater with a diameter of about 450m and an area of about 11ha. It was formed by volcanic activity about 10,000 years ago. There are numerous fumaroles and hot springs, and the desolate landscape is reminiscent of hell, where demons live, which is why it was named Jigokudani. The hot springs, which gush out about 10,000 tons per day, have been known to exist since the Edo period, and since the first hot spring inn opened in the Meiji period, it has been healing many visitors who come to take a cure. Jigokudani is the foundation of such historic Noboribetsu Onsen. With the ticket for Jigokudani parking, we could also park our car in the parking lot at Oyunuma, so we stopped by there as well. The eye-catching blue color is extremely beautiful. Jigokudani was impressive and beautiful, but personally I like Oyunuma better. Oyunuma appears calm at first glance, but it is said that 130°C sulfur springs are gushing out violently from the bottom of the swamp. You cannot enter Oyunuma, but the river flowing out from it is popular as a natural footbath. This is Oku-no-yu, adjacent to Oyunuma. The bluish milky white water is beautiful. The surface temperature of Oyunuma is 40-50°C, while while the surface temperature of Oku-no-yu is quite high at 75-85°C. It is so small that it can almost be called a pond, but the sight of the hot water gushing out is quite impressive. We also took a little detour to see Lake Kuttara, as I wanted to see it once. Lale Kuttara is a caldera lake with a circumference of about 8km and a distinctive beautiful circle. Same as Jigokudani and Oyunuma, it is part of the Kuttara volcanic group, and boasts the second highest transparency in Japan after Lake Mashu. On sunny days, the cobalt blue lake surface is said to be beautiful. We were planning to stay in Noboribetsu that day, but made another detour to Shiraoi to get a stamp for the stamp rally. Huge bear! Having successfully obtained the stamp I was looking for, we took a slight detour to the inn where we would be staying. From Route 86, I took Route 453 and then onto Route 2. Apparently you can see Lake Toya and Mt. Yotei from this parking lot, but unfortunately we can’t see it with this weather. I crossed the snow-covered Orofure Pass and we will stay in Noboribetsu for the night, however I won’t be staying at Noboribetsu Onsen. This time we are staying at Noboribetsu Karurusu Onsen. One of Japan’s most famous hot springs, selected as one of the 100 best hot springs. Many people may know this name as it is part of the bath salts series of famous hot springs. This time we made a reservation at Suzuki Ryokan in Karurusu Onsen. Arrived We were greeted by some cats at the entrance. These cats are so-called local cats and are being taken in by the owner of Suzuki Ryokan. After receiving an explanation of the bath and breakfast opening times at the front desk, which has a traditional atmosphere, the staff will guide us to our room while explaining the facilities of the building. The warm hospitality was very good. Our room this time was at the very back, a corner room. Easy to remember! Suzuki Ryokan Address: 12 Karurusu-cho, Noboribetsu-shi, Hokkaido 1 night stay with breakfast (Japanese-style room by the stream) 2 people ¥13,800 *Prices vary depending on the season The room is equipped with everything you need (including duct tape to get rid of stink bugs!) Explore around Let’s start by looking inside the building. As you walk down the shiny corridor , you will find a sign for the large public bath. By the way, there are other routes to the large public bath, and it can feel like you’re walking through a maze. Since it is an old building, the floors creak quite a bit, but the building is kept so clean that you don’t feel its age. You can use the large public bath any time from check-in until 9:00 a.m. the next morning. Ario Onsen is the name of this large public bath, and it was named Ario because it is “the hot spring where life is born”. There are also old photos on display that tell the history of Karurusu Onsen. And this is a rest room for day-trippers. The Noboribetsu River flows right next to Suzuki Ryokan, and the murmuring of the river is gentle in the quiet environment. I found a cat while walking. The cats around here seem to be rather relaxed because there is little car traffic. A cat has fallen… lol Karurusu Onsen *Photographed with permission. There are three types of baths in the large public bath: high, medium, and low temperature. free- The high temperature bath is a flowing hot spring, while the medium and low temperature baths seem to have spring water added to adjust the temperature. There is also a waterfall bath and a bubble bath. The spring quality is a simple spring that contains a lot of radium. It is easy to imagine that it is a milky hot spring due to the image of bath salts, but in reality, as you can see, it is colorless and transparent. The hot spring is gentle on the skin and doesn’t easily cause skin irritation, giving the impression of being a gentle hot spring. Noboribetsu Karurusu Hot Springs The hot spring was discovered in 1886 and opened in 1899. It was named Karurusu Hot Springs because the water contains a lot of radium and is similar to that of the hot spring resort of Karlusbad (Karlovy Vary) in the Czech Republic. In 1957, it was designated as the first hot spring resort in Hokkaido. Breakfast The breakfast was a simple but well-balanced menu. The rice was especially delicious, cooked to perfection, and I had three refills, which was unusual for me. As soon as I finished eating, we set off. I forgot to serve rice. This trip has entered the second half. From here, I will return to Hakodate, taking detours here and there. That’s the end of this video. I would be happy if you could leave a comment if you were impressed. See you in the next video. I’ll show you some photos I took this time. Hakucho Bridge Daikoku Island Is the Earth Round? Oni Colorful I love blue I felt your gaze Mr. Suzuki Kamekichi Thank you for watching until the end.
