Former Washida Agricultural Office in Fukagawa City, Hokkaido

The Former Washida Agricultural Office, located in Fukagawa City, Hokkaido, was originally built as both an office and residence by Gunzo Washida. Construction began in 1910 (Meiji 43) and took three years to complete.

In the early Showa era, the building was sold to the former Otoe Village and repurposed as the village office and later as a public hall. Although it underwent several renovations and extensions during that time, it was restored to its current form in 2001 (Heisei 13).

Today, only a few parts of the original structure remain, such as the staircase and a second-floor Japanese-style room. However, features like the long columns made from katsura and Japanese pagoda trees (enju) still reflect the building’s former grandeur and craftsmanship.

Visitors can tour the interior, where historical household items and agricultural tools are also on display, offering a glimpse into rural life in earlier times.
