安曇川使った筏流しの木材運搬の守護神とされる神社。
河童伝説とはシコブチ神が息子と筏で安曇川を下っているとカッパが現れ息子を川に引きずり込もうとした。シコブチ神はカッパを懲らしめ、筏乗りに二度と手出ししないよう誓わせたという。
その後安曇川での水難事故が無くなった為、流域にしこぶち神を祭る神社が７社出来たそうです。
