【上高地】今最も美しい場所へ。2大コースを1日で満喫する上高地VLOG⛰️|明神池・大正池・河童橋・日帰り

A place I want to visit at least once in my life — Kamikōchi. Right now, fresh greenery is breathing life into Kamikōchi. Whether on rainy days or sunny days, in this beautiful place, if it’s my first visit, this is a must-see. I’ll introduce the two major hiking courses in detail. Even on cloudy days, the water is blue. I wonder if the blueness comes through? Good morning. I’ve just arrived at Kamikōchi, and came to the Kamikōchi Alpen Hotel where I’ll be staying today. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m., and it’s still 7:00 a.m. now. It’s raining today, but it seems it’ll stay light rain until around 9:00 a.m. After that, it’s supposed to rain heavily. So, I want to quickly go shoot Kamikōchi in the morning rain for about two hours. Before the rain gets heavier, let’s go! Rain in Kamikōchi as clouds descend from the Japanese Alps. It had a different charm than sunny Kamikōchi the next day. There were few people, hardly any cars, so all I could hear were the sounds of rain, the flowing river, and my own footsteps. I could fully appreciate these beautiful sounds that would normally be drowned out by daily noise. I was able to enjoy them to my heart’s content. Since it rained all morning, I did some work, and now I’m going to get lunch. I heard there’s a restaurant about 10 minutes from the lodge that’s tasty, so I want to head there. The rain has stopped, and though it’s not quite sunny, it’s much brighter now. So, I’ve arrived! Delicious! The garlic flavor is nice. It’s energizing. The restaurant also has a shop where I can buy souvenirs and hiking snacks. Beware of bears… Apparently, they appear frequently. Wild bears inhabit Kamikōchi and are spotted daily. There are bear bells on the hiking trails, but carrying your own bear bell is the safest. On Kamikōchi’s official website, the latest bear sightings are posted, so I recommend checking before visiting. Also, be sure to learn how to handle a bear encounter in advance. That surprised me just now. I wondered why it was rustling here— there’s a monkey family! They’re all eating nuts. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… There’s a baby monkey too. About six in total? I didn’t expect to see a monkey family. And they’re not that scared. I didn’t get too close, but even when I got a bit closer to the parent, it didn’t run away or threaten me. I guess they’re used to people a bit? By chance, I was able to film the monkeys. It’s pretty chilly today. The high is around 15°C, about 10 degrees cooler than the city. But tomorrow it might go up to about 25°C. The temperature really changes depending on whether it’s sunny or cloudy. This Kamikōchi… Kamikōchi… I stumbled over the word at the end… The hotel I’m staying at today is the Kamikōchi Alpen Hotel. I’m staying in room 213, the “Hiker’s Room,” which is a shared room. For solo travelers, it’s a shared room (private rooms are available for two or more). There’s a relaxing entrance and a large bath, and since there are few restaurants in Kamikōchi that serve breakfast and dinner, all plans include both meals. You can enjoy local specialties from Nagano, so I recommend it. I got a Kamikōchi map. It’s cute. They also kindly helped me with hiking route advice. I’ve arrived at Kamikōchi! It’s one of the views I’ve always wanted to see in my life, and I’m so glad I came in such great conditions. It’s amazing. The scenery is so beautiful it feels like heaven. Today, I’m going to spend the whole day trekking around Kamikōchi. I plan to explore one route in the morning and the other in the afternoon. It’s such a pleasant morning that I can’t help but smile. Just walking here makes me happy. It feels like the noise and negativity of daily life are being cleansed… There’s a monkey again. Good morning, monkey. It’s sleeping. I get it, it does feel good here. The Kappa Bridge to Taisho Pond (Azusa River course) is about 3.5 km, taking about 60 minutes. After passing Tashiro Bridge, you walk along the Azusa River, with Mount Yake ahead and the Hotaka range behind you as you stroll. That’s Mount Okuhotaka. It’s about 3,190 meters high. The river is so beautiful. It’s probably a little murky from yesterday’s rain, but it’s still blue. I’m walking at the same pace as the duck, haha. Actually, the duck is a bit faster! Even though it’s just floating, haha. So fast! It sped up, haha. It’s not resisting the river at all, haha. Too cute. The duck is too cute. This is Tashiro Marsh. It’s open here and the view is great. You can see the Hotaka range clearly. Tashiro Marsh is a must-see spot on the Taisho Pond course. It has decks and benches, making it a perfect place to take a break during your hike. Up ahead is Tashiro Pond, so I’ll head there now. There are fish swimming too. I wonder what kind of fish they are? If you know, please let me know in the comments. The bear bell was so loud it startled me at first, haha. It’s cold but feels good… On the way back, I plan to take the forest course. It’s a bit scary since there are fewer people, but I’ll ring my bear bell as I go. (My face when I got spooked by a bear) I accidentally captured my own nervous face, haha. I can see Mount Okuhotaka from here too. Walking along the “Nature Research Trail” is the forest course. I pass through coniferous forest while viewing the Nagareyama hills. These trees don’t have any leaves growing. Someone told me about the ghost plant (Monotropastrum). Apparently, it’s a pretty rare plant. This is where the Azusa River course joins up. It was a fairly short course, but I really enjoyed it. I recommend trying a different route for the way there and the way back. It’s really fun. It truly feels like heaven. It’s so beautiful. This area is really blue too. Mr. Weston. Apparently, he’s the person who created Japan’s hiking culture. He wasn’t Japanese? Time for a break — soft serve ice cream. So good! It really hits the spot after all the walking. For lunch I had Nozawana oyaki (vegetable bun). Looks delicious. Let’s eat! Delicious. Looks like this. It’s stuffed full of Nozawana greens. Eating an oyaki while looking at this view makes it taste a hundred times better. No matter how many times I see it, the scenery is amazing… I’m heading to Myojin Pond via the Azusa River right bank trail. The Azusa River right bank trail is about 3.5 km, taking about 70 minutes. A small marsh spreads out where streams from Dakesawa and Zenrokuzawa meet. It’s known for its clear, pure water surrounded by virgin forest. It’s a beautiful spot with views of Mount Roppyaku (2,450m) and standing dead trees. Just like the hotel staff said, the Myojin Pond course feels a bit more adventurous. The scenery keeps changing and it’s really interesting. I really like these young leaves — such a vibrant light green color. That was 500 yen. They told me to see Ichino-ike first, then Nino-ike. So I’ve come to Ichino-ike first. Myojin Pond, within the grounds of Hotaka Shrine’s inner sanctum, consists of two ponds: Ichino-ike and Nino-ike. It enshrines Hotakami-no-Mikoto, the guardian deity of the Northern Alps. Nino-ike is covered with moss and trees, and has a beautiful Japanese garden-like view. Now I’ll cross Myojin Bridge and head back. The bridge sways quite a bit, haha. I crossed Myojin Bridge, and the view from the other side is incredible! How was it? It was my first time visiting Kamikōchi. The clear water, the fresh, shining greenery, and the majestic Japanese Alps still capped with snow — their beauty was truly overwhelming. I definitely want to visit again. It’s a place that made me feel that way from the bottom of my heart.
