2025/05/17. My family is on a work trip in Higashikawa, Hokkaido. Currently in Higashikawa. Corgi trip, van life traveling with a corgi. Osa, Mama-chan, and Kotaro. Osa’s job this time is helping with rice planting. During the day, Kotaro and Osa are waiting in the farmer’s yard. Busy editing YouTube videos. Lunch break. Bread snacks given to us by the rice farmer’s boss. Thank you, but it’s a huge amount. A gift from the boss’s sister. One hour rest, then work starts in the afternoon. Osa carries seedlings from the greenhouse to the rice field. Higashikawa is one of the leading rice producing areas in Hokkaido. Seedlings grown in the rich spring water of the Daisetsu-Zaihi system. Yumepirika and Nanatsuboshi are Higashikawa’s proud brand rice. Dinner is prepared in time for Osa’s end of work. Soup with lots of vegetables. Osa returns home. Looking forward to going to the hot springs after work. Kitousi Forest, Kitoron. Kitoushi Forest is home to a ski resort, campground, and hot spring facilities. The bathing fee for adults at Higashikawacho is 1,000 yen, and the water was very nice. Higashikawacho is also famous as a town of photography. It’s a town with many picturesque views. The countryside and sunsets are simply beautiful. Beautiful rice fields produce delicious rice. We get back and have dinner. Bacon epi and vegetable soup. The feast begins. Vegetable soup with lots of ingredients. You can get some vegetables in, so it’s perfect for van life. The bread we were given will be our staple food for a while. A relaxing evening . Osa is tired from helping with rice planting for the first time. Let’s go to bed early tonight. Getting ready for bed. Osa takes his place in the middle. That’s nice though. Good night. One week later. Charging the portable phone with the solar panel. Setting the seedlings we brought in into the rice planting machine. The master and his wife work in perfect harmony. The seedlings are neatly lined up and planted. It takes skill to plant the rice in a straight line without bending it. I took a walk through the rice paddies with Kotaro. Kotaro was in a good mood because of the beautiful scenery. The amount of water from Mt. Daisetsu is amazing. Stalker? Lunch break. It’s a physically demanding job, so you’re hungry. Eat a lot and keep up the good work from lunch onwards. It’s snack time for Kotaro too. Apparently there’s an event at Kitoushi Forest today. Osa has work in the afternoon, so she’s out on her own. It seems to be pretty lively. The Fun Life Festival is held every year. There are many exhibits at flea markets, direct sales of vegetables, and food stalls. There are a lot of delicious things. There are also stage events. It smells amazing. It’s great to have such a fun event. I found some wild game. Venison is delicious. It was a very lively event. Pets are allowed, so I’d like to come with everyone next time. Soon after, Osa contacted me to say that she had finished work. Today was the last day of work for each farmer. We received Yumepirika rice, grown by the master and his wife. It was a very nice reward. Osa had a very fulfilling job. I’m looking forward to the hot springs after work. Mori no Yu Hana Kagura. Mori no Yu, Hotel Hana Kagura. The bathing fee was 800 yen for adults, and the water was very nice. When we returned to our accommodation, a viewer came to see us. They gave Kotaro some snacks and us some canned beer. We had a great time chatting. Thank you very much. We also visited the grave a few mornings ago. A viewer who came from Tochigi Prefecture on a trip to Hokkaido called out to us and gave us some beer. And a viewer and his wife came to see us from Asahikawa City. They gave us some food. I think it was a 3-sho pickled mushroom from the local area, which was very delicious. Preparing for dinner. Dinner is finished. The banquet begins. Yumepirika rice from Higashikawa. It is characterized by its sweetness and strong stickiness. Delicious. Helping with rice planting can also change your feelings about rice. This is especially true when it’s rice grown by the master he worked with. Relaxed evenings. One of his pleasures is playing with Kotaro. Apple pie, Osa’s favorite. Whiskey and sweets after work. Soothes his tired body. Starting tomorrow, he will be planting rice at a new farm. Helping with rice planting is busy, but he is getting used to it. He will have to get up early again tomorrow.
