明月院の紫陽花、建長寺、鶴岡八幡宮を巡る鎌倉Walk Tour 4K hdr 2025

Kamakura is the name of a place on the west coast of the Miura Peninsula, facing Sagami Bay. Minamoto no Yoritomo established his base here in 1180, and later founded the Kamakura Shogunate here, making it the political center. Minamoto no Yoritomo’s father, Yoshitomo, was defeated in the Heiji Rebellion (1159) by Taira no Kiyomori, and was killed in Owari Province on his way to the Kanto region. This was the young Yoritomo’s first battle, and he was supposed to be killed as well, but he was spared thanks to a plea for his life from Ikeno Zenni, Kiyomori’s stepmother, and was exiled to Hirugakojima in Izu, which was also the fiefdom of Minamoto no Yorimasa’s clan of the Settsu Genji. Twenty years later, in 1180, Yoritomo, who had received an imperial decree from the Minamoto clan throughout the country, raised an army in Izu, where he was exiled, to overthrow the Taira clan. Yoritomo’s army was defeated in the Battle of Ishibashiyama (Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture), but overwhelmed the forces of Taira no Koremori and others in the subsequent Battle of Fujigawa. After conquering the Kanto region, Yoritomo entered Kamakura, a land associated with his ancestors and a natural fortress, and established a palace in the area east of the current Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, near the border between the school building and grounds of Yokohama National University’s Kamakura Elementary School and Seisen Elementary School. In the same year, 1180, Yoritomo moved the Hachimangu Shrines (Tsuruoka Wakamiya Shrine and Yui Wakamiya Shrine) from Tsuruoka, Yuigo to Kobayashigo. Kobayashigo is where Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is currently located, and since then, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine has become a symbol of Kamakura.
