真壁城 中世真壁氏の居城 茨城県 Makabe Castle 2025

Today we will head to Makabe Castle in Ibaraki Prefecture. Get off at Iwase Station on the JR Mito Line. It takes about 40 minutes by bus from the station. Get off at the bus stop “Makabe Castle Ruins”. From the bus stop, walk towards Makabe Gymnasium. You can see the information board near the parking lot of the gymnasium. This area seems to have been the former main enclosure. There was also a stone monument nearby. Makabe Castle was the residence of the Makabe clan from the Heian period to the Sengoku period. After the Battle of Sekigahara, the Makabe clan moved to Akita as vassals of the Satake clan. Since then, the castle has been in ruins after being taken over by the Asano clan. Currently, there was an Inari Shrine on the site of the main enclosure. Return to the information board and continue your walk. The first moat that surrounds the main enclosure still remains in this area. Let’s go further. This area will be Ninomaru Higashi Koguchi. You can see the restored earthworks. Proceed along the earthworks. I will go up to the top of the earthwork. This is Nakagusuku southeast Koguchi. Earthworks and dry moats continue. In early spring, there are fewer weeds, so you can clearly see the shape of the castle. You can see Mt. Tsukuba in the distance. I returned to Kokou, southeast of Nakagusuku. Apparently there was also a garden around here. You can now attack invading enemies from the left and right. The width of the dry moat is quite wide. The road is bent to prevent people from entering straight. Let’s go to the south side of the outer ring. I’ll go up to the earthworks. Is it the sound of a frog? This is Sotokuruwa Minamikoguchi. It is a tiger mouth with an outer square shape. Go down and pass through the tiger mouth. There is Kashima Shrine ahead, so let’s go there. I came to the entrance of the shrine. You can see the main shrine in the back. There was an earthwork at the back of the main shrine. It seems that the earthworks from that time still remain in this area. This is the Sotokuruwa Higashikoguchi. This moat seems to have been used as a shoji moat. Let’s walk on the earthworks and go around the outer circle. We have reached the north side of the outer ring. This is the north tiger mouth of the outer curve. There is also a place here where you can climb up to the earthworks. It seems that some places are still under construction. I went to the folklore museum in Makabe Castle Town. There was also an exhibition about Makabe Castle here. Makabe Town has also been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Murai Sake Brewery. Famous sake made with water from Mt. Tsukuba is on sale. Former Makabe Post Office. Iseya Ryokan. Thank you for watching.
