Hi everyone 🤗 Today we’re visiting Okadera Temple, a famous spot in Nara known as the birthplace of *hanachōzu* 🌸✨ This stunning scenery full of colorful blooms
is only available during Golden Week 💐📸 Hope you’ll stick around and enjoy the whole video 🤗🌸 We’re starting our journey from Kintetsu Osaka-Abenobashi Station,
taking the express bound for Yoshino 🚃 It’s a 39-minute ride with 7 stops,
heading to Kashiharajingū-mae Station We’ve arrived at Kashiharajingū-mae Station ✨ Now we’ll transfer to a bus 🚌 Let’s head to the east exit Go straight down this path and you’ll see the East Gate But first, a quick food stop at FamilyMart 🍙 Got my usual onigiri! Alright, time to head to the east exit 🚶 Here we are at the East Exit! Let’s head over to the bus stop 🚌 Look out for this sign 👀 We’re going to Stop No. 2 Okadera is located in Asuka Village And here we are at Stop No. 2 From here, take the “Aka-kame Bus”
and hop on either Route 16 or 23 🐢 The cute turtle logo 🐢✨
comes from an ancient turtle-shaped stone found in the village! While waiting, the bus driver told us
about some great spots to visit in Asuka♪ The Aka-kame Bus takes you around the Kashiharajingū-mae–Asuka area 🚌 You can also visit famous sites like the Ishibutai Tomb
and the oldest Buddha statue in Japan at Asuka-dera! At the Takamatsuzuka Tomb, you’ll find
a vibrant National Treasure wall painting of an Asuka beauty! “Tachibana-dera” is said to be the birthplace of Prince Shōtoku✨ So many great spots to explore in the Asuka area 🌿 The bus fare to Okadera is ¥370,
but if you’re planning to explore the area the ¥750 all-day pass is definitely the better deal🉐 Big thanks to the kind driver 🤗 Alright, let’s hop on the bus! 🚌 Swipe your IC card when you get on and off Before we took off, the driver kindly explained
how to get to Okadera 😊 This red line shows the route we’ll be taking today 🗺️ To get to Okadera,
get off at “Oka Ebisu-mae” 🚌 From there, it’s about 100m to the “Okadera-mae” stop and right next to that, you’ll see a torii gate—go through it and you’re there!⛩️ If you get off at “Okadera-mae” instead,
you’ll end up taking the long scenic route toward Ishibutai… To save time, getting off at “Oka Ebisu-mae” is your best bet◎ Alright, let’s head out! ✨💨 It’s 11:21 now 🕛 Let’s take a look at the stops along the way 👀 Here’s where we are 🗺️ We’re leaving at 11:21, and arriving at “Oka Ebisu-mae” (the 11th stop) at 11:38 🕐 It’s about a 17-minute ride♪ You’ll find the route link in the description box★ We’ll pass through Asuka Village on our way to Okadera 🌿 Let’s enjoy the peaceful scenery together for a bit♪ Asuka Village was once Japan’s capital
from the late 6th to 7th century It’s the birthplace of Japanese history—
like Prince Shōtoku’s Constitution and the Taika Reforms 😎✨ You’ll also see traditional rice terraces and countryside views
that have been preserved for centuries 🌾 There are also charming old houses,
some turned into cafés or places to stay 🏡 You really feel connected to Asuka’s rich history 🍃🥰 We’re getting close to our stop! Arrived at “Oka Ebisu-mae” 🚌✨ After getting off, walk toward the back of the bus and turn right down this street 🚶 Then just keep walking straight from there Soon you’ll see the Inukai Manyo Memorial Museum 📖 It’s dedicated to Professor Inukai Takashi,
who helped spread awareness of the Manyoshu poetry 📖✨ Just past that building,
you’ll spot the torii gate to Okadera on your left ⛩ Alright, let’s go in! Right after passing through the torii gate,
you’ll see a café called “La ville -miyako-” on the right ☕ Now we’ll walk along the path leading to the temple. On the left is the “Asuka Smoked Goods Workshop.” They make handmade smoked sausages, bacon, and ham. It’s currently 11:49 AM 🕚 Let’s keep going—about 10 more minutes to walk 🚶♀️ This slope is pretty steep…! I’m already out of breath just from this hill…😅 Here comes Okamoto Jikō Kannon,
famous for blessings of safe childbirth, fertility, and love. Some people ride rental bikes up to this point, too ^^ If you’re cycling, I definitely recommend an electric one—it’s a tough climb! ⚡🚲 There’s also a parking lot really close to Okadera 🅿️ Just a little further… We’re almost at Okadera! Now comes the final stretch…! And the steepest hill is waiting for us 💦 Even for cyclists—it looks brutal 😵💫 Final push! Let’s power through this last bit! 💪 We’ve finally made it to Okadera! ✨ Out of all the temples I’ve visited,
this one definitely had the craziest uphill 😂 Even though it was just a 10-minute walk,
that hill was no joke… felt like I was climbing Mt. Yoshino lol 🌸 The entrance fee is 400 yen (as of 2025) Okadera is a Shingon Buddhist temple,
and the 7th site on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage 🙏 It’s also known as Japan’s oldest temple for warding off misfortune ✨ Right after entering, you’ll see the flower-themed purification basin on the left 🌼 There’s an adorable “Tsumami-zaiku Dahlia Charm,” and a gorgeous “Dahlia Cutout Goshuin” ✨ This is the flower basin that’s been going viral on social media 📸🌸 By the way, there are no ladles at the flower basin, so you’ll purify your hands at the smaller one in front. The glass marbles sparkle and give off a refreshing vibe 🤗✨ During Golden Week, the pond is filled
with floating dahlias—called “Hana no Ike” 🌸 Even the stone bridge over the pond is decorated with dahlias—so beautiful ✨ Alright, let’s head over to the main hall! That bright red flower on the right… is that azalea? A bronze lantern with beautifully detailed reliefs ✨ And there’s the main hall up ahead. These are “Dragon Wish Orbs” with wishes written on them. And some pretty unique-shaped ema (prayer plaques) 😬 Let’s head inside the main hall. Right as you enter, you’ll see the 4.85-meter-tall statue of Nyoirin Kannon—
Japan’s largest and oldest clay statue (Important Cultural Property) ✨ It’s especially worshipped by women
as a protector from misfortune 🙏 Toward the back, you can also get omamori (charms)
and goshuin (temple stamps). There’s a powerful “Dragon Goshuin” for the Year of the Dragon—1,200 yen.
It’s packed with bold energy and blessings 🐉✨ Alright, let’s head to the next spot! You’ll see a pond and a big stone on your right. Actually, Okadera is also known as “Ryugaiji”—Temple of the Dragon Seal. Legend says a mischievous dragon was sealed in this pond, and this huge rock was placed on top to keep it contained 🐉💭 Let’s go take a closer look! This path leads toward Inari Myojin Shrine ⛩️ During hydrangea season, around these red torii gates… it turns into a gorgeous “Ajisai Corridor” filled with vibrant blooms 😍✨✨ I was going to keep climbing, but… there were way too many bugs,
so I gave up on going any further 😪 Heading back down now. Alright, let’s try going this way instead! I think there’s a viewpoint up ahead,
so let’s go check it out 👀 After going up the steps, we reach the 13-tiered stone pagoda! Apparently, this area is known as the “Rhododendron Path” 🌺
(…though nothing’s blooming right now) Let’s keep heading up! Oh? Now it’s sloping slightly downhill ^^ Wow… from here,
you can see the entire Okadera Main Hall ✨ Alright, let’s keep going 🌿 Down the steps, walking another 2–3 minutes… There it is—The Three-Storied Pagoda! This pagoda was actually rebuilt in 1986,
after 514 years ✨ The first floor opens to the public
only once a year—on the 3rd Sunday of October. That must be the viewing area! Wow… what a stunning view! You can see all of Asuka Village, including the Tachibana-dera area ✨ Such a gorgeous panoramic view! And this pagoda—it’s surprisingly tall when you see it up close ✨ Alright, let’s head back down! As we came down… we were greeted by a sea of azaleas! They’re blooming so beautifully~ 🌸 And look—at our feet, there are dahlias in little pots! ✨ At Okadera, there’s a purification bell that visitors can ring freely for protection from misfortune 🔔 I’m gonna check out the bell tower too! Apparently, this bell was supposed to be taken during the war,
and seven holes were drilled into it for metal testing. But luckily, it was never taken,
so even now it still rings out with a beautiful sound ✨ You should totally try ringing it when you visit! ★ Next to this lantern,
there’s a little rest area where you can take a break 🍵 They sell drinks too, so it’s perfect if you need a breather 😄 Alright, time to head back ✨ Are these rhododendrons? 🌸 They’re blooming so beautifully~ 😁✨ It’s already 2PM now 🕑 And even at this hour, there are still a ton of visitors ^^ Alrighty, let’s wrap it up here! Oh wait—I totally forgot to check out the Nio statues! lol This gate was built way back in 1612. Pretty impressive, huh? Alright, let’s head to the bus stop~ 🚌 We’ll be taking the same route back as we did coming here. This slope actually has a 50m elevation difference 😅 But it’s all downhill on the way back, so it’s a breeze! ^^ We made it back to the torii gate ⛩ The bus stop is right in front of that building to the left.
It’s called “Okadera-mae” 🚌 And here we are at the “Okadera-mae” bus stop! Here’s the weekend & holiday return schedule 🕒 We’ll take the 3:44 PM Akakame Route 16! 🕒 There’s a bench here, so let’s sit and chill for a bit ♪ Oh! Is that a restaurant right across the street? It’s “Asuka Village Cafeteria” 🍽
Looks like they do takeout too ^^ They’ve got veggie-packed spice curry using local Asuka produce, plus udon, rice balls, café lattes and more—everything looks yummy ☕🍛🍙 It’s 3:44 PM. Time to hop on the bus~ 🚌 Wow… That climb up to Okadera was no joke 😂 lol I’m honestly kinda wiped out… 😅 We’re now back at the same bus stop we started from. Kashihara-jingū-mae Station. Alright, back to Osaka we go-! It’s now 4:31 PM. The express train just pulled in 🚋 Let’s head back to Osaka Abenobashi Station So, how did you like the stunning dahlia water basins
and the flowers floating in the pond? They were absolutely breathtaking, weren’t they? 🌸✨ Next time, I’d love to come back during hydrangea season too,
not just during Golden Week 🥰 If you get the chance,
I really hope you’ll come visit as well 😊🌸 For bus times and more info on Okadera,
check out the links or my blog in the description 🤗🌸 Next time, I’ll show you the hydrangea garden
at Mimuroto-ji, which opens in late May 💠 With around 20,000 bushes blooming,
it’s one of the biggest hydrangea spots in Kansai—don’t miss it! ✨ And I also stopped by Itohkyuemon’s main Uji café
for some amazing matcha sweets—can’t wait to share that too 🍵 Thanks so much for watching!
