START! Hello 🙂 Today we’re in Kawagoe, full of Edo charm! In this episode, we’re visiting a new hot spot that opened in Feb 2025— Chiikawa Mogumogu Honpo Kawagoe! It’s located in the famous Candy Alley! “Mogu mogu” means munch munch—this store is all about food! They’ve got original merch plus tons of food-themed items featuring the characters! Very different from the Chiikawa Land stores we’ve shown before. Only two locations in Japan so far: one in Kyoto Fushimi, and this one in Kawagoe! Everyone’s munching happily—it’s so cute! When I visited, the Kawagoe store still required advance reservations via lottery! (Footage filmed on April 19) I joined the lottery via the official LINE two weeks before—one slot per week, per person. (Didn’t win? You’ll have to try again the next week.) Good news! Starting May 12, you can reserve same-day entry from 8:00 AM on LINE—first come, first served! Just turn on location services and be within 10km of the shop. Much easier to visit now if you’re planning a trip! Time to line up and head in! The shop has a classic Kawagoe vibe—like a secret base hidden in the old town! You’ll receive a checkout ticket at the entrance—only one purchase allowed per person! During filming, the lighting inside caused flickering on camera… No matter how I adjusted the settings, it kept flashing! Sorry about the flicker—hope it’s not too hard on your eyes 🥺 As expected—the Chiikawa dorayaki was already sold out! It’s a collab with “Kameya,” a long-established dorayaki shop in Kawagoe. I heard you have to get there really early to get one. So many food-themed goodies here! This cookie set seemed really popular. Speaking of local specialties—Kawagoe is famous for sweet potatoes (satsumaimo)! So of course, the exclusive plushies here are sweet potato-themed! Let’s take a closer look at the plush section in a bit. Shrimp crackers! Such a retro Kawagoe vibe~ They come in two different designs! Sweet potato cookies The cookie tin is so nice—I love it! Sweet potato tea—now that’s unique! The purple packaging is super cute—taking one home! This sugar candy jar looks great for storing little trinkets after! Everything’s so cute—especially the packaging! Mini sponge cakes with sweet potato and chocolate flavor There are these candies too Different colors for each character—so much attention to detail! It’d be so soothing to keep one on your desk So cute! Cute little bathroom mats Just adorable~ Only one towel design left in stock! Done exploring all the food items Look—it’s Usagi’s self-portrait hiding in there! The characters are munching on “fugashi” (Japanese sweet) Fugashi is also one of Kawagoe’s iconic snacks This looks like an acrylic board for taking photos Everyone’s happily munching on sweet potatoes Keep walking and you’ll reach the most hyped area… That’s right—a whole wall of plushies! Staff restocking while people keep grabbing—it’s so lively! Most people probably head straight here after entering The Kawagoe-exclusive sweet potato plushies are larger than usual They could totally be used as little pillows The sweet potato hat and mini cape are just too cute (Feeling tempted…) The smaller plushies are more like actual sweet potatoes—with just the face showing Almost everyone has a plushie in their basket This one’s the shop staff outfit They’ve got the standard designs too I prefer the bigger ones, honestly I suspect Kurimanju is drinking sweet potato shochu—but I have no proof This one’s based on the “Inuhariko” (lucky dog figurine) Inuhariko are protective charms from the Edo period Really captures the classic vibe of Kawagoe’s old streets A new blind box series—can badge designs in tiny cans They’re super detailed, and the artwork is adorable 12 designs per set, 2 sets total—24 in all, and I love them! Blind boxes featuring traditional lucky charms Even tiny plates like this—so cute! There were quite a lot of people inside the store Which made filming a bit tricky for me… But if you love Chiikawa, you’ll definitely enjoy shopping here Lots of stock, rarely sold out, spacious layout, and great vibes Plus, Kawagoe itself is a lovely old town worth strolling through (Check out our previous Kawagoe video too!) A relaxed one-day trip here is absolutely perfect At the photo spot: Hachi munching on fugashi and Usagi as a rickshaw puller He looks like he could run really fast!
