Located in the southwestern tip of Gunma Prefecture, this mountain village is surrounded by mountains with altitudes ranging from 800m to 1,400m. It is the municipality with the highest aging rate in Japan. With nearly 70% of the population being 65 years or older, it is said to be “the village with the fastest aging population in Japan.”
