坂本の延暦寺里坊群の一つ、旧竹林院境内南西にある回遊式庭園で、面積3,300m2は里坊庭園の中で最大である。里坊は延暦寺の僧侶の隠居所で、今も数多く残されています。坂本にはかつては80軒の里坊がありましたが、現在は54軒しか残っていません。竹林院は、一般公開されている数少ない元里房。平成30年9月より物置にしまってあった座卓を活用したリフレクション撮影ができるようになり、話題を集めている。

A strolling garden located in the southwest of the grounds of the former Chikurin-in Temple, one of the village temples of Enryaku-ji Temple in Sakamoto, with an area of 3,300 m2, it is the largest of all the village temple gardens. Village temples were retirement homes for the monks of Enryaku-ji Temple, and many remain today. There used to be 80 village temples in Sakamoto, but now only 54 remain. Chikurin-in Temple is one of the few former village temples that are open to the public. Since September 2018, it has been possible to take reflection photos using a low table that was stored in the storeroom, which has been attracting attention.
