根室十景 春国岱 Ten Views of Nemuro Shunkunitai
春国岱は、北海道の東部、根室半島付け根の北西部にある湖、風蓮湖と根室湾(根室海峡)を分ける砂州で形成された面積約600ha(東京ディズニーランド約12個分)の湿地帯及び原生林である。有史以来ほとんど人の手が入っていない。オホーツク海の海流によって運ばれた砂が推積されて出来たもので、約3,000年から1,500年前に形成されたと考えられている。長さ8㎞、最大幅約1.3㎞の3列に並んだ砂丘で構成されており、砂丘と砂丘の間に湿地がある。砂丘の少し高くなったところに針葉樹林が形成されておりアカエゾマツの森林がある。唯一人の手が入ったものとしては、散策路の木道橋が張り巡らされており、そこから動植物を観察することができる。湖と海に囲まれた場所にあるため常駐して生息しているヒグマはいないが、数年に一度の頻度で近隣の森から出没することがある。2005年11月8日に、風蓮湖とともに、ラムサール条約登録湿地に登録された。
Shunkokutai is a 600-hectare wetland and virgin forest (about 12 times the size of Tokyo Disneyland) located on a sandbar separating Lake Furen from Nemuro Bay (Nemuro Strait) in eastern Hokkaido. It has been almost untouched by humans since recorded history. It was formed by the accumulation of sand carried by the currents of the Sea of Okhotsk, and is thought to have been formed between 3,000 and 1,500 years ago. It is made up of three rows of sand dunes, each 8 km long and 1.3 km wide at its widest point, with wetlands between the dunes. A coniferous forest has formed on the slightly higher part of the dunes, and there is a forest of red spruce trees. The only human intervention is in the wooden bridges that run along the walking trails, from which the flora and fauna can be observed. As it is surrounded by lakes and the sea, there are no permanent brown bears living there, but they may appear from the nearby forest once every few years. On November 8, 2005, it was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland along with Lake Furen.
