Merchants who are not PCI compliant usually "eat a fee" by their processor until they choose to complete the PCI questionnaire. Whomever is responsible for reviewing the merchant statement from the processing company will know whether or not they're compliant – but sometimes that person isn't even aware they're being fee'd or why. Simply calling and asking the receptionist of whichever merchant you're curious about will usually not get you far. Better to check for a good BBB rating.

Misleading title! I came here looking for Hotels that were warm and welcoming to the hacker community, but all I found was some fluff piece.

CR needs to do this same piece but looking at hotel's wifi security. That may indeed be "hacker friendly."
