⁴ᴷ Ehime: Uwajima Station (愛媛県: 宇和島駅) – Japan Walking Tour (January, 2026)
I’ve decided to take an off-season trip back to my hometown in Kobe, using it as a starting point for a journey all the way around Shikoku. Traveling from Takamatsu through Kochi and around the Ashizuri Peninsula, I’ve finally arrived in Uwajima City, Ehime—the terminal stop of the JR Yosan Line.
While the city’s population has declined from its peak of over 100,000 to about 62,000 today, it remains a prominent hub for the aquaculture industry. Walking through the center at night, I found a grand shopping arcade, yet the streets were remarkably quiet after dark. In the entertainment district, a few women were out trying to attract customers, looking quite cold under the night sky.
As I wandered, I found myself reminiscing about the stunning view of Uwajima Bay I saw from the castle during my last visit. It was a peaceful stroll, feeling the quiet rhythm of this historic coastal city at night.
