元旦。
日本では古来より、新しい年の始まりは
神を迎え、身を清めることから始まってきました。
神輿は町を出て、海へ向かう。
冷たい波の中で行われる 海中禊（みそぎ） は、
心身を清め、
一年の健康、平穏、そして良き道行きを
神々に願うための儀式です。
言葉はなくとも、
太鼓、掛け声、そして 甚句（じんく） が
人と神、海と陸を結びます。
これは演出ではなく、行い。
年の最初に、覚悟と願いを海に預ける――
日本の変わらぬ正月の姿です。
New Year’s Day.
In Japan, the beginning of the year has long been marked
by welcoming the gods and purifying oneself.
The mikoshi leaves the town and enters the sea.
This ritual, known as misogi, is performed in the cold ocean
to cleanse both body and spirit,
and to ask the kami for health, peace, and guidance
for the year ahead.
Without narration,
the sound of drums, chants, and jinku connect
people, gods, land, and sea.
This is not a performance.
It is an act of faith.
On the first day of the year,
hopes are entrusted to the waves.
