National Route 151 is a major highway that runs from Iida City in Nagano Prefecture through the mountainous region of Aichi Prefecture (Oku-Mikawa region) to Toyohashi City. In addition to its mission of connecting regions, it also functions as a “lifeline” connecting the mountain villages of Southern Shinshu and the Oku-Mikawa region, playing an important role in promoting industry and supporting local life.

This section runs through the most sparsely populated area along the line. As a result, traffic volume is low and narrow sections remained until recently.
