I Visited China’s Most Mysterious Water Town (People Still Live Here)

This ancient water town in China has lived side-by-side with water for thousands of years. From the layout of the streets to daily routines, everything here is shaped by the rhythm of the tides.

Sitting beside one of the most fierce and unpredictable rivers on Earth, this town has learned to adapt rather than fight the water. Locals still wash vegetables in the canals, move goods by boat, and plan their lives around the rise and fall of the tide — just as they did in ancient times.

While many water towns have become tourist attractions, this one remains deeply lived in. Water isn’t a backdrop here — it controls the town, the architecture, and the way people survive.

This is life in a place where the tide decides everything.

We are Reanne and Ben living in Portsmouth, England. We have been together from the age of 15.
We brought our first house together at 23, got married at 25 and Reanne started her own business at 27.
We have been wanting to travel the world so
The day has finally come we have sold our business and and our house to explore as much of the world Full Time.

    Since you guys are already in Zhejiang province, why not visit Linhai in Taizhou and check out the Jiangnan Great Wall? Although it’s different from the Great Wall in Beijing, it has its own unique charm. There’s also a floating bridge and some beautiful ancient streets to explore. It’s definitely a place worth spending one or two days in.(btw its my hometown so it would be fantastic if you visit there!)

On New Year's Eve, they will enjoy these foods with their family members and also give these foods to relatives who visit during the Spring Festival. Preparing traditional Chinese delicacies before the Spring Festival is a common memory for many Chinese people.
